Stopped by with some friends and children. Behind a slightly unpromising entrance lies a wonderful collection of aircraft and memorabilia. What set this apart was the fact the boys were encouraged to try on flying suits and helmets and hop in and out of the various cockpits - what 12 year old buy doesn't want to know how to start... Having visited the collection, last week, and having come from Milton Keynes, We found the experience very enjoyable, a very warm welcome from the team. The Flight Simulator experience was very real, and allowing us in some other flight cockpit, which we couldn't get it any where else. This place has Choppers and Rolls Royce Engines as well. Special Thanks... More

Having visited the collection, yesterday, and having come from the North West, I found the experience very enjoyable, not least the warm welcome from a dedicated team. The Link Trainer, one of only three working in the Uk, was a special treat " to fly in" as I have seen these from Wartime photos, in magazine articles. I had always... More

BDAC at the Old Sarum Airfield is a definite worth if you enjoy aviation history. There are not many displays but don't get deceived by that. The ones that are in display are quite a treat for old and young alike and the volunteers are very helpful and at the same time leave you to see for yourselves what the... More

This was the perfect place to visit with a slightly geeky husband and son (8) because they were allowed to clamber in and out of numerous aircraft cockpits and some even had sound effects to make it feel more real. The staff were fantastically friendly and helpful and extremely knowledgable. Lots of written info and photo opportunities for husband and... More

We had a lovely afternoon both being shown around and exploring for ourselves. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and lots to keep my 4 year old plane nut interested.

This museum is a precious treasure chest. A time machine, even. You can hop from cockpit to cockpit through WW1 to date and even through individual marks of aircraft and get the pilot's eye view of aircraft evolution from historical and manufacturer's perspectives. Unique. There's enough here to keep the dedicated aviation enthusiast (better if you've flying knowledge too so... More

Normally, at most aviation museums, you are not allowed to touch the exhibits? The Boscombe Down Aviation Collection at old Sarum is obviously very different on that score. Not only that, but you can actually sit in the cockpits of at least 17 different aircraft. Which makes this collection utterly unique and in that aspect and I had the most... More

This is a very interesting museum with a totally hands on experience. The shop staff are very friendly and helpful as are the guides. When you get down into the hanger the guides welcome you and explain a few things but do hover around you. However they often stop and chat. As one person said to me, we learn as... More

Despite my husband's father having been at Boscombe Down carrying out very interesting development the people in the museum were not at all interested and totally ignored us when we said we were intending to return the following da. Surprisingly we didn't bother!
