This is a National Trust property. It was used as a location in the film "Sense and Sensibility." I recognized some of the elegant rooms from the movie. The last family resident lived her entire life in this house, from childhood to old age. She was a watercolorist and accomplished needleworker. Her desk and work table are set up as... More

We are members of the National Trust and have seen many grand houses. Mompesson House is a residence and you feel you could quite easily live in it. Its a beautiful house with lots of interesting history, contents and décor. Its in a great location on the edge of the Salisbury Cathedral Close, which is worth a walk round in... More

We visited the cathedral and the Close. Mompesson House was an interesting insight into the homes surrounding the cathedral.

Good value but quality cakes and nice tea in lovely setting of the garden. We didnt have time to visit the house but looked nice from what we saw. The tea room is located in the garden as such and I am not sure if there is a charge to be able to access as this is through the house... More

One of the National Trust's smaller houses. We often visit just for the cafeteria - a very friendly and cosy establishment. The house is well worth a visit - although there are less facilities than at larger properties. As it is situated in the Cathedral Close, just alongside Chorister's Green, it is a welcome addition to a visit to Salisbury... More

Loved this house and it's view of the cathedral. There was a fabulous collection of clocks including one that played a hymn on the hour. The sculptures were interesting and loved the handmade silk butterflies. The courtyard garden was also lovely, although quite small. Great for passing an hour or so or probably a couple of hours if you visit... More

Small but interesting National trust owned property. Lovely atmosphere, nice little gardens. Tea room tiny but well organised and prompt service despite being busy.

Called here after being to Salisbury Cathedral being next door to it was well worth the call to this 18 century house with plenty of history about it. So if you have a couple of hours to spare after being to the cathedral then a walk across the square it worth taking a look.

Nothing special about the visit - disappointing that the house was not furnished with the original furniture. Had the servants' rooms been open, it might have been slightly more interesting!

The furnishings are not the original (I think few NT houses are?) but indicate the various, mainly Georgian, periods the house went through. Great way to spend a wet bank holiday Monday
