This is a delightful Queen Anne town house on the edge of the green across from the Cathedral. Not huge, but very interesting as it still feels "lived in" and intimate. We were there on a chilly day and it was wonderful to be invited to sit down in front of the fire in the library... we had to stop... More

A calm and quiet little café, always a treat. Love their sandwiches, a pleasure to sit in the garden after a walk around the house.

We go to a lot of National Trust houses and had never ventured into Mompesson House before. The house is small and a bit grotty. If I had paid for the experience I would want my money back.

It may be small but this house has an undeniable warmth about the place. Get the room guides talking about something in particular and it comes to life. Particularly interesting are the ceiling moulds and the collection of glassware. Small garden and tearooms would be lovely on a summer's day.

We felt that we could live in Mompesson House. It has been well cared for by the National Trust and feels welcoming even given its age (1701). We found it very interesting and the garden very peaceful. Not too keen on the sculptures but that's a matter of personal taste

As is usually the case with National Trust properties, this house is well presented and full of interest, with helpful room guides to explain or discuss various aspects. The garden is small but interesting and refreshing and the small cafe serves a small menu of good food and drink. I was pleased to note that people were allowed access to... More

We enjoyed our time at Mompesson house and the beautiful surroundings opposite the Cathedral. When we visited there was a display of modern glass and craft wear.

Interesting, but not too much to get your teeth into, as the house is only about a third of the size of the original property. Staff very knowledgeable about the place, as you would expect.Gardens, though small are pretty. There is a very nice tea room as well. It has possibly the best view across the close towards the Cathedral

This is a National Trust property. It was used as a location in the film "Sense and Sensibility." I recognized some of the elegant rooms from the movie. The last family resident lived her entire life in this house, from childhood to old age. She was a watercolorist and accomplished needleworker. Her desk and work table are set up as... More
