worth going if you have a national truest ticket, but I would have been disappointed if we had paid. not much to see, quite a small house and not at all elaborate. small garden. the tea room was a total let down. At the very least I expected a nice Victoria sponge or chocolate cake but sadly it was just... More

In the cathedral close is Mompesson House, owned by the National Trust, and an excellent example of a Georgian townhouse. Although the furnishings are not original to the house, they do show how such a house would have been furnished in the C18. It also has an attractive garden behind the house.

The house is known for its glass ware collection but I was more interested in the layout, gracious light-filled rooms, elegant staircase and outstanding original plasterwork. The way in which the rooms were furnished and arranged gave a clear indication of the way in which the inhabitants lived and thus a glimpse into their lives. Upstairs rhe national Trust had... More

I visited Mompesson House in May. As I have said for my Stourhead review as I visited the day before I had forgotten my National Trust card but the staff were also very helpful and called around for me. I had a lovely chat with one of the guides as it was not so busy when I visited as I... More

Two adults and a 13 year old boy. This is a small town house on the green opposite Salisbury cathedral. The guides have lots of interesting things to say. It won't take long to see the entire house including the pretty walled garden. But do enjoy the glass ware and pottery that were collected by a previous owner.

The house is one of the smaller National Trust properties but very nicely kept. The drinking glass collection is the main attraction in my view, displayed in one of the two downstairs front rooms. You can easily cover the house in an hour and then spend some time sitting in the garden enjoying the weather (whatever it may be, there... More

It was a beautiful, historic house that I truly enjoyed. It was part of the Sense and Sensibility movie years ago. The garden is nice as well and they have a café there. Many people were having tea and treats outside on the patio. It only takes a little over an hour to visit the house and small yet quaint... More

House is set in a lovely square in the centre of Salisbury near the Abbey. Well worth a visit as the house is beautiful and the gardens are lovely too. There is a cafe/tea room in the garden which is nice. It is not one of the National Trusts larger properties but well worth a visit.

The National Trust have maintained Mompesson House in impeccable order. This is largely due to a well motivated and immaculate staff who are always to hand with great enthusiasm. Mompesson house is a humble family home designed and decorated as a mini palatial residence and it works. There is a fine collection of antique glass displayed in the dining room... More
