Quaint street!

The atmosphere was lovely., because of the history in this city. Nice shops selling a big variety of interesting things and food

Salisbury does contain a few interesting side streets such as Fish Row which have a varied range of shops and cafes. My overall impression of Salisbury was that it was a little bit tired. Lots of charity shops and cafes but a bit short on the more upmarket businesses, certainly when compared with Chichester or Winchester. The market (Tuesday and... More

Well worth a visit but, sadly, a number of the shops are vacant. High car parking charges and rates are causing a number pf Salisbury's traders to review their options. A real shame as Salisbury still has a great deal to offer. At the top of the street is the old Poultry Cross and The Haunch of Venison pub, Check... More

No more expensive than other cafes in the town, but serve homemade quality food and drinks. Enjoyed our visit very much. Will be here next time we are in Salisbury.

I noticed that the areas around the Market Square had names pertaining to what had previously ...in days of old...been sold there Fish Row, Salt Lane, Oatmeal Row and Butchers Row, which incidentally does still have a very old traditional looking butchers in it. Very interesting and unusual.

Fish Row is where fish was sold in ancient times and follows on from Butcher Row famous for the meat. The buildings are all extremely old and beamed, most are restored but some are hidden behind modern facias. There are delicatessens, coffee shops, one of Salisbury's most famous butcher shops and much more. A short lane but one to see.

Plenty of cafes, most of which have tables and chairs outside for al fresco dining, traditional pubs, and a baker, delicatessen, bookshops, tea merchants, clothes and shoe shops. Cobbled street and lots of sandwich board signs and street furniture might make it a bit hazardous for those with mobility of sight problems, so mind how you go!

We wandered the streets, late at night and during the day. The back streets have retained many of the ancient attributes, even though they are located amongst modern buildings.

How well preserved this area is. A really nice little street. You don't even realise the age of it as it is so well adapted and preserved. Coming from London we really don't appreciate the older places in the country. Well worth another visit.
