Very interesting place and the guided tour is very informative. The road leading up is long and narrow but worth the effort.

I visited just the gardens when I spent time at the annual Plant Fair that was held over the early sping B/H weekend. It is a beautiful part of the country and I loved the informality of the gardens. In particular the areas of grass left un-mown with various meadow flowers peeking through and the occasional dark purple tulip punctuating... More

Very interesting National Trust property, very difficult to find if you do not know the area it was not signposted at all. Guided tours on the hour and we just made ours, they are filming there at the moment so many period pieces of furniture have been put away and there are various props around the house - this did... A delight. This is a gem indeed, wonderfully tucked away 'far from the madding crowd' it has all of the features you would expect from a house of this age - and the added delight of being a family home. The gardens are a treat - not manicured to within an inch of their lives which would not suit the... More

Interesting that some reviewers have complained about the lack of perfect manicuring of the garden and the house, given that the most frequent complaint levelled at NT properties is that they are sterile and lacking in atmosphere! At Great Chalfield Manor, you will find a tenanted property which retains the ambience of a family home. For sure, there may be... More

What a lovely place! Get there at "quarter to" the hour and you'll just be in time for the "on the hour" guided tour of inside the house. I was delighted that we got to see upstairs as well as down! The talk was informative and enjoyable. Although small, the garden was very pretty and if you go down to... More

This is a National Trust home that dates back to the late 1400’s. The great hall and other rooms are still as you might have found them centuries ago. Much of the medieval wall that fortified the house is still present. There are also gardens, a chapel, and other buildings. The house is still the residence of the Floyd family.... More

Went to visit Great Chalfield Manor unexpectedly on a sunny afternoon. The adjacent chapel is worth a visit and it was definitely worth waiting for the guided tour. Led by guides with very good knowledge of the house and family history we had a most enjoyable visit.

This is a beautiful property and just the sort of smaller affair that I prefer. I am a member so got in for 'free'. I wouldn't pay the rate that they ask. It is not good value for money. The gardens are pretty but nothing special. The guide was the best thing of the visit. A man with wit and... More
