Had a fantastic few days on the Corn Bunting from ABC Boat Hire at Hilperton Marina. Spent the first night at The Barge Inn; had a lovely meal and a peaceful night. Second night at All Cannings; spectacular scenery and another lovely friendly pub - the Kings Arms. Third night spent at the top of the Caen Lock Flight (lovely... More

We were invited on a day trip by our friends and the weather was awful but it brightened up later. The trip was great - we had everything we needed on the boat including a kettle and cooker. Our eyes were opened as to how many people frequent the canal on day trips. We saw Mario World characters and lots... More

We hired a boat from alverchurch from hilperton for the week, The pick up was nice and simple, we loaded our things onto the boat and had a tour of the boat before the mechanic explaining how everything works, giving us a short lesson and letting us set off!! You are able to leave your car just over the bridge... More

We have been hiring narrow boats every year since 1975. From experience we homed in on Alvechurch boats as the best. We used them so often that we qualified for their highest discount. But this year we discovered Moonboats on the K & A canal,. Fantastic. Ten feet wide makes for a major improvement in comfort. The boats are fitted... More

Recently on our trip to the Devizes area we took the chance to visit the Kennet and Avon Canal Museum to learn more about our industrial past. The canal system fell into disrepair many years ago but thanks to the enthusiasm of volunteers this canal has been restored to its former glory and the Museum tells the story of the... More

Hello all - I just thought I'd write a review about my experiences with AngloWelsh on my Kennet and Avon canal trip at the beginning of August. Other reviews seemingly show that AngloWelsh aren't good at getting back and offer poor compensation. While this is certainly true for others (I'm not calling anyone a liar! :-D), my experience with AngloWelsh... More

Perfect surroundings for a bike path and well maintained- woodland, fields, canal, old locks and traditional pubs. Plenty of villages and small towns nearby for supplies or accomodation. I can thoroughly recommend as a cheap alternative break for a few days, then hop on a train back. Too easy.

Did this in three days (Bath, Devizes, Hungerford Reading, 20, 30, 30 miles) and then train back to Bath. Great journey. However, if you follow the official cycle route after Devizes it does leave the canal and after Pewsey it deviates a great deal and decides to go over every hill in sight- this may be required by true road... We first encountered the Kennet and Avon Canal while working at Aldermaston in Berkshire five decades ago, just a decaying reminder of human determination to make life easier. When someone said that there were moves afoot to bring the canal back into use, we laughed. The canal was just somewhere to go for a look at a dead past. The... More

We have narrow-boated a few times now, and decided with growing children, a bigger boat was a good idea. Anglo-Welsh have a simple tariff, whereby you pay per berth, so a 65' 4 berth boat is the same price as a 48' 4 berth. Therefore, book early and you can get a bigger boat for a good price. We chose... More
