Wilton House is a glorious example of an English Great House. A nurtured garden and fountain in the forecourt is a spark of genius. I was looking forward to going to Wilton House. It is very close to Salisbury and in a lovely setting. However, the entry fee is very expensive, around £ 15.00. Made special trip to Salisbury to visit Wilton House. Stupidly I didn't check the house was open on Saturdays during the summer. More

This is really a very lovely place to visit. The house was designed by the architect Inigo Jones (who also did Covent Gardens in London). Some of the highlights include the Double Cube room, known as the room where General Eisenhower planned the D-Day operations in 1944.
