Description: Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family...
Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of the most well-loved family attractions in Leeds and only three miles from the city centre. At Tropical World you can take a trek through the rainforest; stopping off briefly in the outback of Australia before a quick excursion through the desert, and all in the same morning! It is home to some old friends that include rare birds, crocodiles, butterflies, bats, spiders, snakes and the meerkats - the cutest family in Leeds. It re-opened in March 2015. This follows some stunning renovations that include the aquarium area transformed into a new Amazon themed zone where you can see new residents including piranhas and salamanders.

This is a good and well priced attraction. We visited the cafe first, which served nice food. The attraction itself had a good range of animals to view, with a nicely structured route to walk. The gangways are a bit narrow, which makes pushchairs problematic.

It was a good visit but wouldn't say it was a full day out. My daughter was captivated by the butterflies and loved the meerkats but it is very hot so you do rush by a few things. The heat is for the benefit of the animals so it is to be expected but still enjoyed our visit.

With young kids tropical wold entertAined all of us for just over an hour. For the price we paid that isn't great but the kids enjoyed it and learned some new things about the animals. There are now meerkats too which made all the little ones happy and snaked for the others. Canal gardens is truly beautiful and just over... More

Took the grandchildren who absolutely loved it. The butterflies and birds are plentiful and colourful, with lots of the small animals, which are very interesting, especially the meerkats. There is a café and a souvenir gift shop also, which the kids also loved. Although it is an all day event, it took about an hour and a half to slowly... More

Great for kids at a real nice location; park next door. Lots of interesting small animals inside; butterflies and birds. Not too big; will take you about an our to see everything. Recommended for bad weather

I took my little boy here, as he has a love of all animals, and this was something a bit different from a zoo. The entrance price is good, and the amount of animals to see is brilliant. However, it's not somewhere you can spend all day, or even more than 2 hours (and that's with a small child). It... More

Visiting as a mixed group, I really felt the place was very lacklustre. The water seemed very murky with lots of algae (and why is it dyed blue?), butterflies few and far between, and many animals without enough space, light and natural vegetation to improve their lot. I reckon the staff are doing their best, but not enough resources; it's... More
