We used to visit Lotherton Hall regularly, mainly so that our son could play on the playground, grab an ice cream, visit the shop and cafe and occasionally go round the bird garden. The car parking cost was reasonable and it used to be a great place to go when money was tight. Not anymore. The admission price has increased... More

Ample parking on arrival, at £5 each well worth the price, the hall is beautiful, fantastic bird garden, courtyard cafe and shop, fabulous gardens and grounds to wander around, (don't miss the orchard!) great for all ages and lots to see, need a full day and a picnic, will be back!

We spent a day here with friends, chatting and catching up as we walked the grounds. The Bird Garden is really quite something, with many different types of birds on view. We actually walked through it twice, it was so interesting. The gardens were well kept but nothing too special. There is a nice playground for children that was getting... More

If you have children the play equipment, zip wires, etc. are excellent. Slightly more unusual than some play areas. You can teach yourself to play croquet on the lawn, not as easy as it looks! The house is interesting but the bird garden makes the trip worthwhile. It is an extensive collection of interesting and unusual birds. The grounds are... More

We went here not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised. A 10 minute visit to the bird reserve took over an hour as there were a wide variety of interesting species to view. The gardens were a delight to be in and although the house itself was not much to look at from the outside, it was nevertheless well stocked... More

We decided on a visit to Lotherton Hall basically by the prick of a pin. It is conveniently placed just off Junction 47 of the M1, and is well signed. Many years ago, when we last visited, the raison d’etre of this place was the Bird Garden. Nowadays, run and heavily subsidised by Leeds Council, things are very different. The... More

Leeds council looks after this house magnificently full credit to them. Also for keeping admission charges reasonable. The house is lovely with a nice liveable feel. There are many beautiful paintings and lots of other lovely items.Gardens here are well kept and peaceful the walled garden being a favourite of mine. There is a decent cafe with a good choice of food.

We went here in the school holidays on "Africa Day". It was enjoyable and the kids seemed to like the fact that there were a few things to do; house/museum, arts/crafts, birds and playground. It nicely filled a day. I can't comment on value as we didn't pay, and we don't understand why. We stopped at the kiosk to pay... More
