My hotel room looked out onto City Square in Leeds. Majestic statues looked back at me! The buildings reflect the majesty of the statues and the square itself is the hub of the Leeds bustle. Just watching the square through the window was fascinating, and wandering around the square itself was equally fascinating, with the Black Prince dominating the scene.... More

I went here for some wedding pictures. And it's a great location. Though there are way too many pigeons. The black prince stands majestically in the centre looking down on all around. A nice little place.

Came in for a solo female business meal on the off chance. Expected nothing due to 'chain food' but got loads! Great service and wine recommendation from Stephen behind the bar. My request of a rare surf n turf was delivered by the kitchen staff! Great atmosphere and never once felt uncomfortable.

The square is dominated by a huge mounted statue of the Black Prince who, right now, is wearing a yellow jersey in honour of Le Tour de France. He is surrounded by statues of partially clothed ladies holding torches one of whom is also wearing yellow to guard her modesty. There are too statues of several local worthies and plenty... More

The square's central island is a gallery of Victorian bronze sculpture. Prominent in the scene is the splendid equestrian statue of the Black Prince. Around him are 12 smaller statues, 4 of which are historically famous.. scientist Joseph Priestley, James Watt inventor, John Harrison philanthropist and Dean Hook prominent churchman. I would have liked to see a bench to sit... More

At this time of year you know Christmas is around the corner when the tree goes up in City Square. Festooned with small coloured lights this is a beacon from all corners of the square. Together with the numerous restaurants this makes a happy glowing meeting place for all ages. What a shame the old 'Majestic' is closed as this... More

The many changes having taken place since I circled City Square, many years ago on my travels to and from my place of work. No longer is there to be found a wayside pulpit boldly declaring Humdrum isn't what you do it's what you are. Instead is the growth of huge shiny office buildings proclaiming the city's progress and importance.
