Description: St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in...
St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

Went there for a wedding and I was amazed. The day was beautiful and it was stunning location, the fantastic point was the disabled access as my mum is a disabled lady they had a wheelchair ramp and a stair lift. The only negative was the toilets are on the ground floor only.

No visit to Coventry would be complete without seeing the magnificent Guildhall. Located close to the Cathedral it is so convenient to combine the two.

I'm Coventry born and lived there until '78 but amazingly had never visited St Mary's Guildhall until today, I'm so glad I've discovered it now. This stunning building is as important as it is well preserved; Henry V dined there, Shakespeare performed there more than once and it houses a 15thCentury Flemish tapestry that rivals Henry VIII's for quality and... Stumbled across this after visiting the Cathedral. Free admission. Beautifully restored/preserved. Staff pleasant and approachable but could have been more proactive. Believed to be the best example in the UK and I can well believe it.

If one has not been there before then you will be surprised. The place is very grand. Also the fact that a queen was held captive during her journey to be executed is something for ones imagination. There are lots of little rooms and narrow stairways to explore. The Guild hall is ok for wheelchair users. It is affordable.

What a gem of a place this is. Stand in the old ruins with your back to the tourist information place at the foot of the old steeple. Look to your right and you will see a wrought iron gate, go through this and you will find this ancient guildhall. Wonderfully preserved and still used today. Amazing that it survived... More

We went for a wedding, what a brilliant venue I must say. The staff were friendly and the place was spotless, really historically interesting, wished we had spent more time there.

Fell across this 700 year old Merchants Hall right beside the ruins of the cathedral. Free entry and has partial access for wheelchairs (lift to main hall). This is very impressive and shows there were no lack of funds in the times of these Medieval merchants! The ceiling of carved angels is beautiful and one wall is covered in a... More

This is a Coventry Council run function room. Don't think that is a bad thing. The food is always good and so is the service. Every year my wife and i attend various functions here and are never disappointed.
