Coventry cathedral is beautiful and adorned with wonderful pieces of art but, for me, lacks the sense of timeless spirituality which is a characteristic of older cathedrals. The Sutherland Tapestry is fascinating but I can never look at it without remembering a comment from an elderly visitor: 'I didn't know Christ had bunions'. I have visited several times & attended... The ruins are a good place to start and for this Coventrian still atmospheric. To find the history of this place go to the visitor centre for an extensive display including ruins recovered from archaeologial explorations. Sir Basil Spence-designed new building is a delight but of its time and all the better for this. Integrated with the old building the... More

Been here often come rain and shine and it is always a peaceful and reflective place to visit. Love the old ruins and the history behind them. Communion takes place a couple of times a week and from what I've seen this is well attended from public and visitors. Links to the new cathedral which I don' visit very often... More

After the car museum trip we took all my guests down to this beautiful monument and they were all taken back by the beautiful architecture the history behind the whole city and worth definitely going to visit and if you get the chance when the schools are on than best go when the Blue coat Church of England school attends... As someone from Coventry my opinion may be somewhat bias, but over the years i have taken many visitors to the Cathedral and they have all been very impressed. The modern architecture is quite stunning and all the more so when you see the contrast of the old ruined cathedral next door. I think for anyone who is in the... More

Most people think of Sir Basil Spence's 1960s cathedral which is of course beautiful in a modern way but the attached ruins of the much earlier cathedral, which was partially destroyed during an air raid in 1941, are still very well worth exploring - recently additional crypts have been discovered underneath. Coventry's earliest medieval cathedral, St. Mary's, was founded as... More

A lovely New Cathedral, the Graham Sutherland Tapestry is beautiful. next door are the Old Cathedral ruins, which were bombed in 1940. Also a short walk away from both these sites the first Cathedral ruins can be seen (TV`s Time Team excavated them a few years ago) and they can be seen behind a glass wall, there is also a... More

From the the steps joining the two cathedrals, one a shell of itself, and one just about 50 years old is heart warming . The modern yet sacred newer cathedral, is united with the remains of the old one,yet both tell their histories ,the bombing during WW2, and the new one rising like a pheonix some 20 years later. I've... More

A fantastic place to visit. The Ruins of the Old St Michaels cathedral are joined to the New Cathedral and after viewing the Old walk across into the new. Unfortunately the Church Authorities have chosen to charge for entry to the New Cathedral but never the less it is a grand sight once entered into. Take time to walk across... More

Bombed during the blitz there is little but the shell of the old cathedral. Nevertheless its majesty and charm continue to affect those who enter. Contrast this with the new Cathedral, beautiful stained glass, tapestries etc, quite a remarkable place. Like Marmite you will love it or hate it. It is a place of peace, reconciliation and worships with travellers... More
