Opened in 1962, mac birmingham is a hub of creativity and learning in the Midlands. With four performance auditoria, rehearsal and media studios, a cinema, and a visual art gallery, mac birmingham presents a broad range of contemporary work from both emerging and established artists across genres. mac birmingham is the most visited arts centre in the Midlands and is renowned for its family friendly and inclusive approach. Originally intended for children, the centre now caters for audiences young and old, from the local community and beyond. Re-opened in May 2010 after extensive refurbishment, the arts centre boasts stunning architecture and a high level of accessibility. Set in the magnificent surroundings of Cannon Hill Park and home to the Bridges Bar Café for meals and snacks, and the stylish Arena Bar for evening drinks, the centre is well worth a visit.

I often visit the MAC to use free internet and eat in the ground floor cafe. Its not the cosiest space and often there are no tables so you have to place order, drag all your bags, coat, laptop across to the bar area. Sometimes there are staff standing around in the bar area but they don't always take orders.... More

We hired a studio here for my hen do to hold a dance class which was facilitated by Rachel from All Steps Dance (great!!). Although we felt slightly out of place in our 80s attire, we were efficiently processed on arrival, being given a key to access the studio we'd hired. The process to book the room was easy using... I've known MAC since 1988 through various reincarnations and it's consistantly been a greasy spoon cafe that fails as an art centre. Recent visit sums it up. So called restaurent for some reason had run out of most of the menu for which I was gratefull as I have eaten there before but my friend hadn't, Toilettes were filthy. Art... More

On Good Friday, my children and I visited the MAC to get a drink in the cafe and avoid the rain. I was flabbergasted to be sitting there with them to realise the video on the main wall on entry to the MAC and on the way to toilets was of a woman having sex and trying to orgasm. When... More

Considering how expensive the food is compared with comparable publicly funded arts centres, staffing levels in the cafe are woeful and when there are only two staff serving a very long queue, they can't be blamed that the floor of the cafe resembles a school dining room after a few food fights, with litter and chips on the floor. Also... More

This is well refurbished art centre with a decent theatre stage. I have been here on comedy nights, theatre nights, dance shows and conferences. Booking tickets is pretty simple and collecting is easy. However the bar staff always seem to have issues, they are either too aggresive or sometimes not with it. The cafe staff have a real attitude problem,... More

A small venue, an intimate venue. Not chavvie, and no screaming kids. Excellent bar, reasonably priced.

We went here on Valentines day evening to watch Liz and Dick in the small theatre. The show was excellent and was only performed by two people who went stright through for 75 minutes. How they remember everything to say is certainly a skill. A very enjoyable evening with a difference. The theatre is very intimate and you feel like... More

My wife has to be dairy free because our 3-month old is intolerant, and she breast feeds. She ordered the dairy-free option specifically, but after a few bites found butter in it. We're shocked and really annoyed.

Breakfast was a delight but even for someone with a good appetite it beat me. Two bacon, two sausage, 2 poached eggs, field mushrooms, baked beans, hash browns and freshly cut toasted bread. It might be worth doing a smaller breakfast to give a better choice but I am not complaining as it set me up for the day. The... More
