Visited as part of a short break as a family with nine year old twins. The place itself is really nice, facilities, building, grounds all very pleasant, art display nice and interesting. However, our visit was really spoilt by the attitude of the staff. Right from our arrival when we went to pay and it was assumed that we would... More

We went to see the Canaletto exhibition and we were disappointed. The exhibition has been overrated and over-publicised - no audio guide available and only few paintings by Canaletto on display. The rest of the art collection is average and poorly organised - no labels by the paintings make it quite hard to learn about them (there is a booklet... More

We went to Compton Verney for the first time, so everything was "a new experience." The visiting Canaletto exhibition was special, but the British Folk Art collections were very interesting, as something I'd not really seen before. The whole experience at Compton Verney is full of interest. There is an enthusiasm amongst the staff, and the catering facilities are very... More

This place has it all: it's a beautiful Palladian country house set in gorgeous parkland (designed by Capability Brown), which houses a superb permanent collection of art. As if that wasn't enough, there is usually an interesting exhibition on offer. I visited with friends recently to see the superb Canaletto exhibition (ends on June 7th). Having done justice to the... It is always a pleasure to visit Compton Verney. I have been several times and enjoy revisiting old favourites such as the British Folk exhibits and the pictures of Naples as well as the temporary exhibitions. This time it was Canaletto. Beautifully displayed with enough - but not too much - information about the pictures and knowledgeable staff to answer... More

It has only been a gallery for 20 years or so, but it feels like it has been there forever. Set in a wonderful house, the pictures and objects feel right. The exhibitions are top class. Cannaletto is the big one at the moment. The grounds are stunning and best of all the museum doesn't feel crowded. Its not cheap,... More

Modern gallery with a number of interesting exhibits. Didn't explore grounds because it was wet on the day.

On a glorious sunny day I visited specifically to see the Canaletto Celebrating Britain exhibition - my first visit to this museum. What a delight - just a perfect setting with a wonderful collection of trees, a lake and a delightful bridge and sheep. There is a small but perfect collection of British Portraits and a large collection of British... More
