We saw The Empress at this wonderful venue. Both the performance and venue were fabulous. You must go here if you are in Stratford.

Despite booking our seats late, we had an excellent view of the play. Although I knew something about the relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim, I learnt a lot about the treatment of Indian Ayahs and seamen in late Victorian Britain. It was a fascinating and most enjoyable performance. I would recommend it to anyone as a tale of...

What an atmospheric place! We say Thanika Gupta's play "The Empress" here and it is EXCELLENT. If you possibly can, go and see this play, about the relationship between Queen Victoria and Abdul Karim, her Munshee, with a parallel story about a young ayah who is abandoned by her employers the moment their ship arrives in England. An enthralling play.
We actually booked to see an non shakespearian play here which was excellent. The tickets were very reasonable and even though high offered a good view and acoustics of all the action. The lifts are acessable but only open sometimes. It was a long way to go and get an ice cream in the interval.
There is a show and...

However, those in the balconies look like they are straining their necks to see. Glad I was in the stalls. One caveat: If you do not like sitting cheek to cheek with strangers, you may not be happy. There are no armrests in this theatre.
Saw the empress here. Theatre is small and intimate creating a feeling of engagement with the play. Wood and exposed brickwork provide a pared down backdrop to the action. music was fantastic, sight, sound, smell were all vividly expressed.
We love the intimacy of the Swan and mostly enjoyed this production of Boris Godonov. An interval would have been welcome simply to re-read the programme and check up on all the history that this play covered.
Interesting play about a Russian Tsar who stole the throne but the production is not sure whether it is a tragedy or a comedy. Actos charge about and involve the audience but you don't feel for the charaters.
I just love this theatre as it's so completely different to the architecture of any theatre in Australia. Just gives a different perspective of the stage and how it can be used.
