Take a scenic ferry trip across the River Avon to the Waterside gardens by the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and recreation grounds. In operation since 1937, and fully rebuilt in 2010 by Avon Boating, 'Malvolio' as it is named has ferried thousands of passengers back and forth over the River Avon. As one of the last remaining hand wound chain ferries in the country you will get to see a unique angle of the river with views downriver to the Holy Trinity Church and upstream to the RST.

We found this to be an excellent way to cross the river - novel, interesting and only 50p pp. Its basically a foot ferry to cross the river Avon. We used it for the novelty value and really enjoyed ourselves. It was a great way to travel the river. I'd recommend it to anyone.

A nice experience and a relaxing way to cross the busy River Avon, only Stratford can have just a unusual ferry. Give it a go - its fun.

Great little ferry and very useful but make sure it is open before arriving (50p each way). Good shortcut across river and needs support otherwise it will close.

Very handy and not long to wait. Bargain for 50p each if you don't want to walk to the bridge. Would definitely recommend and use this again.

The ferry is always a bit of fun for children (and visiting adults) and saves a long walk round via the footbridge! Well worth the fare!

50p for a ticket, the dog went free (and loved it) and it's very convenient. Not much else to say - what can you get for 50p nowadays!

The small chain ferry boat is about 300 yds from the Shakespeare Theatre. It provides a very convenient crossing of the river, from the town side to the car parks, for only 50p. The strong and jolly ferry man winds a handle that pulls the ferry across the river using a fixed chain. It takes about 5 minutes and runs... More

Don't miss the chance to experience an unusual mode of transport ... and all for 50p! Everyone on board enjoyed the short trip across the River Avon.
