Set in a beautiful, old-fashioned garden, this thatched [naturally] cottage seems to be designed for photographers and watercolour artists. Anne Hathaway's cottage is such a quaint home. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and are a charming little walk for couples. The only drawback were the tour guides. I assume they were volunteers and their knowledge of the home was nothing out of the ordinary. If you knew even a little bit about Shakespeare, the tour would be nothing new.... more

We took the open air round trip tourist bus (not cheap at £10 each) to the village of Shottery just outside Stratford. The cottage is by far the prettiest of all the houses with a spectacular thatched roof and not to be missed.
