Went to see Shrek in March 2015. The decor of the Theatre is simply amazing, the amount of time and money put into the restoration has been well worth it. The seats were not comfortable though and I don't know how anyone overweight would fit into them. I found the sound quite 'muddy' sometimes and it could be hard to... More

Visited this theatre in March 15 to see Shrek. The theatre itself is absolutely superb and beautifully maintained. The seats were comfortable the sound was good and the staff were really friendly. The show itself was excellent, colourful, lively and true to the film. Really enjoyed my visit. Only niggle was the price of the drinks, but thats the same... More

A lot of the reviews deal with the shows at the Theatre Royal - I've visited a number of times -stalls or dress circle Royal Shakespeare to Ballet to West End shows. My review is of the history of the building -it's brief so not to bore you .Hope you find it interesting. The theatre was opened on the 20th... More

I love visiting this beautiful theatre in Newcastle and always feel like it is a special evening. Shrek didn't disappoint. We were at the back of the stalls with seats labelled as partial view- this was only a drawback due to the overhang from the upper circle! Only a problem when we stood up to clap for the finale!!

What a shame that when the theatre was refurbished patron's comfort wasn't considered. The seats are hard and really uncomfortable to sit still on for 2-3 hours.

We bought our tickets at the last minute and were lucky enough to sit in a box, there were two of us sharing with another couple which meant we had plenty of space and a good view, there were five chairs in there but I'm afraid the fifth would have had to sit like a 'spare part' behind us. We... More

Went to see the musical petticoats and miniskirts - was in the upper gallery. The theatre was great - good atmosphere and a great show. Only slight complaint I would have was the leg room was pretty tight to the seats in front ( bit like easy jet planes ). Ordered interval drinks and they were ready waiting for us.
