Have been to the O2 Academy Newcastle a few times for live gigs. Most recently to see Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott last night. Entry to the venue was quick and easy, I arrived a couple of minutes before "Doors" and joined the O2 Priority queue and was actually inside moments later. This was quite a nice touch, as an... Get my tickets when I can on 02 Priority. Cannot be happier. Overall I think the huge space means you can get quite a lot of people in their for gigs with excellent quality in sound. Knowing some of the sound engineers I know they take their job seriously, and it shows on the night. Drinks are a tad expensive,... More

Been to a number of gigs at this venue over the years with varying success. Tonight's attempt was the worst. The gig was 'sold out', in my opinion oversold to the point of it being dangerous. The access up and down the stairs is not easy. The staff do not help in the slightest, every member of staff I encountered... More

I went to last night to Newcastle 02 Academy to see Wilkinson - shambles is one of the nicer and more polite ways that I can describe it. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to make it a 14+ event? I felt like I was some what at an under 18's disco. They were running around drunk... More

I love seeing bands/acts here. The atmosphere is great and the place is more personable in size. It's in dire need of an overhaul. The staff are ignorant and rude on the bar. If your going to see a band which children may enjoy expect to be treat like a child from security as clearly your one also. Personal qualm... More

We regularly travel to Newcastle to see bands, both the Arena and here. The O2 looks as if it hasn't been decorated since it was built, the toilets stink and the carpets are sticky. If you get over that and just want to enjoy the music, it's great.

Bar staff are absolutely terrible! They let you stand there waiting to be served! I was fuming! My advice is to drink before going so you don't have to encounter such stuck up Nasty people that forget their position in life.

Awesome band in a great venue. The Academy is not the biggest but it has good acoustics and you feel like you're right next to the action, even from the balcony. Ideal if you want a couple of beers before the show, too, plenty of bars around. Parking is available around the back on Fenkle St, Indigo Hotel - it... More

I've only ever been to the O2 (formerly Carling) Academy for nights out on a Friday and a Saturday - namely for Propaganda and more recently Alpha. The prices aren't too bad on a weekend, and it isn't as bad as some make it, but there's better places to go definitely. Even if you like indie and alt, which they... More

The first time i went to this place was around 2010 and i swore never again, but a DJ me and my friend loved was coming over from Canada and we couldn't miss it! WE went to see Flux Pavilion and Datsik, but mainly Datsik :) We got in the back way courtesy of a friend of ours which was... More
