We regularly travel to Newcastle to see bands, both the Arena and here. The O2 looks as if it hasn't been decorated since it was built, the toilets stink and the carpets are sticky. If you get over that and just want to enjoy the music, it's great.

Bar staff are absolutely terrible! They let you stand there waiting to be served! I was fuming! My advice is to drink before going so you don't have to encounter such stuck up Nasty people that forget their position in life.

Awesome band in a great venue. The Academy is not the biggest but it has good acoustics and you feel like you're right next to the action, even from the balcony. Ideal if you want a couple of beers before the show, too, plenty of bars around. Parking is available around the back on Fenkle St, Indigo Hotel - it... More

I've only ever been to the O2 (formerly Carling) Academy for nights out on a Friday and a Saturday - namely for Propaganda and more recently Alpha. The prices aren't too bad on a weekend, and it isn't as bad as some make it, but there's better places to go definitely. Even if you like indie and alt, which they... More

The first time i went to this place was around 2010 and i swore never again, but a DJ me and my friend loved was coming over from Canada and we couldn't miss it! WE went to see Flux Pavilion and Datsik, but mainly Datsik :) We got in the back way courtesy of a friend of ours which was... More

The 02 academy good do with a modern feel to it. There is only one set of toilets in the venue and within 20 yards of them you are feeling physically sick due to the smell of them.Once inside the venue its not too bad and can hold 2000 although drinks are very expensive at over £3.50 a pint more... Fantastic show. Band on top form. 1st visit to Newcastle academy and thoroughly enjoyable. 1 quibble was the price of beer, but that's the same with all venues these days.

Went to see newton faulkner live. Terrible gig through no fault of his own. The Sound was terrible and really quiet. Staff where very rude also. Will be avoiding going again unless I have to.

Hello readers. I attended a rock gig here on Dec 9. Papa Roach.....beastly rockers from California. The venue was average sized but vey good. Circle downstairs and seated balcony upstairs. The security staff was very good and kept an eye on everything. I am not young anymore to be in the moshpit. So balcony for me. Brilliant acoustics and lighting.... More

Saw a gig here recently. Walking distance from the train station. Enough bars so that the queues weren't lengthy. Staff friendly and overall, we had a great night watching quality live music. Ticket prices we reasonable, my only gripe would be the high cost of drinks. Other than that, very good. Cheers
