As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design. « less

A few of us went to see the documentary I Am Divine recently. Having not been for some years it was a bit of a nostalgic trip. The venue had seen some renovation work, some of which was still going on. The cinema is very art house, small and shows independent movies. Downstairs is a coffee shop where you can... More

Always try to fit in a visit to Tynesdie Cinema whenever you are in Newcastle. There's a great cafe and a bar. Always shows good movies. Lots of other activities to share too......how about a spot of knitting in the cafe one night? We are truly blessed to have this fantastic cinema.

Excellent! It's summed up what I feel about Tyneside Cinema. If you are looking for indie movies, this is the place. They also occassionally have movie marathon events, where you only need to pay £1 for a movie. It could be a classic, anime, etc. PS: They have a nice and comfortable seat :D

I was meeting my friend for lunch and a catch up, its a lovely quirky little cafe. We spent 2 hours sitting there and they did not seem to mind. The food is good value for money and good for plain eaters, baked pots, sandwiches etc.

The Tyneside is a great place to visit - it's an independent cinema showing really varied films, both mainstream and non-mainstream,the Tyneside Coffee Rooms on the second floor is a Newcastle institution, serving simple fare, such as baked potatoes and toasted teacakes. It's a nice, informal place to go whether you are in a group or on your own, and... More

I try to see films here, whenever possible. It's a beautiful place, with friendly, helpful staff, and is a unique treasure.

Visited the Tyneside Cinema the other day. First time in around 30 years. It was terrific. The cinema is in the process of being renovated & improved. I wish I hadn't left it so long before returning. I won't make that mistake again - I'm going back next month. Highly recommended!

If you're a film buff or movie geek, the Tyneside is a must visit. Recently had a lot of money spent on creating some shiny new bits, but still has all the charm, character and history. Great for watching the latest indie film, or watching an old favourite. Get a lot of films that aren't widely released. The coffee shop... More

Newcastle's independent cinema. I recommend the café too. Good food , friendly staff always willing to take time to offer advice on what is on the menu. Reasonable café prices. Comfortable seats for viewing. A little pricier than other cinemas? but we get 'silver' concessions!

I love the Tyneside Cinema. I used to go there very regularly when I lived in Newcastle. It's a really relaxing place to go for a coffee with friends or a loved one. I'm also really glad that there is a place in Newcastle that shows interesting, intriguing, enjoyable less well-known films, particularly foreign ones, that you won't find at... More
