At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

Tyneside cinema offers a fundamentally better experience in film viewing. The choice is more limited but there are overall interesting films and the simulcasts offer the opportunity to join the audience for really high quality drama and art. You can feel a part of the enterprise rather than simply a commodity. Becoming a "Friend" is really good value if you... More

Of all the cinemas I have been to this is the best for comfort. The staff are very helpful you get very comfy seats and plenty of leg room. They show some of the mainstream films but have some amazing unusual films showing too. If you have never been before it is well worth a visit to see what a... More

The excellent cafe/bar, friendly staff and choice of some of the best cinema releases make Tyneside my first choice every time I want to see a film. They have an innovative programme of screenings and I love the foreign language films in particular. The Classic is great with their sofas for two and you have a real feeling of involvement... More

Watching a film in The Classic is just something amazing for cinema lovers, everyone should try it at least once. Comfy chairs, great sound system and screen.

Looking back and on reflection, I think it would be fair to say, “ In my life I have lived through many terrible things, most of which never happened.” Now I know that might sound implausible, " A mission impossible;" " Even a bridge too far perhaps." But If you want to " Get Carter " you’d best trip the... More

The setting and atmosphere of the Tyneside are unbeatable. Added to that, you get to see foreign language films and less mainstream, more interesting films that are rarely shown in your local Odean. Comfortable seats with great leg room, especially in the upper screens. Makes cinema going an experience.

Friendly and informative staff, a great night out - more enjoyable and infinitely better value than other cinemas, especially the modern multiplexes which are getting ridiculously expensive. The Tyneside Cinema also shows a far greater variety of films, some of which can't be seen anywhere else in the region. It's a regional treasure!

A wonderful experience. More than an attraction, Tyneside Cinema is a lifeline to the past and the future of specialist cinema viewing. It never fails to deliver in terms of entertainment and overall ambiance. Whenever I wonder down Northumberland Street and cross the road, I resist the temptation to turn right towards Monument, because I always enjoy taking a sneaky... More

Every other Monday at noon is the Silver Screening slot. Book well in advance for Seniors tickets, its usually packed. Went to see "Woman in gold" yesterday, newly released. Had an early lunch (brunch?) at 11am in the lovely Art Deco cafe, the waiters are swift so you don't miss the beginning of the film. Great value and comfy seats,... More
