Owner description: At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

Worked with Gary Kitching years ago - lovely lad. Go see the Suggestibles, good fun and a good laugh!

Friendly staff, comfy seats, a very different experience to that of a large multiplex Screen is much smaller than in newer cinemas

Popped in for late lunch. Food was substandard, over-priced pub grub. Staff were friendly but gormless. Wished I'd gone to Greggs instead. I'm sure the films are good as they don't make them.

We are so so lucky to have this small cinema in Newcastle. It runs the best independent films and is just the loveliest cinematic experience, if the huge multiplex is not your thing. It has bars and cafes also, many happy hours could be spent.

This independent cinema has recently been treated to renovation and what a very excellent renovation it is! The new restaurant is excellent and is accessible from the main street, just down from Northumberland Street. A couple of weeks ago I went to see a Jacques Tati movie and because it was an art-house/world-cinema film it was shown in the snuggly... More

My husband remembers this cinema from his days as a student in the 50s! But now it has moved with the times and you have a choice of several different screens/films and considerable comfort. We are not very with it on the film front so only go to probably the more talked about films, but look forward to our experience.... More
