As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design. « less

If you are in Newcastle, you need to visit the Tyneside Cinema for a little piece of lost history. We did not get a chance to grab a coffee at the cafe or a drink at the bar - but if you have the time definitely stop in at the cafe. The FREE tour includes an old news reel showing... More

Great food but slow service. Very slow taking our orders at the bar and for the food to come out, took at least 40 minutes!. The food was amazing however and the staff were polite and apologetic. Would deffo return! I had the buttermilk chicken and waffles with syrup and crispy bacon, it was SO good!

Every film I have watched there made me feel like I was a time traveller. When the curtains open it is just fabulous! It is also a very nice place to spend time in a good conversation, drinking a fine bottle of wine. I love that place!

whats not to like, about 3 - 4 cinemas in one building, one the original traditional larger cinema, with wrap around seats & very easy viewing. the smaller viewing rooms even more gorgeous with one only 5 rows - can be served refreshments in the cinema including alcohol, one even has its own bar - so very spacious & enormous... This cinema is fantastic, not only is it a cinema, it's also a lot more. I've been here to watch films, attend training days and also just for a coffee. It's a nice central location to meet people too. Cinema facilities are great and you can enjoy a glass of wine with your film!

This is a very popular place, great range of films and choice of eating rooms. Amazing events, and really good value for all ages.

I love the Tyneside Cinema. It's a lovely little place with a great atmosphere, decent drinks and great coffee. I've been on a number of dates here and can't recommend the place highly enough.

Every visit here is a real treat. From the independent screenings, Art Deco surroundings and informative displays about the cinema's history, this is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city streets. The staff genuinely care about their art and the diverse screening and events programme means there is something for everyone.

Has been a while since we have been to the Tyneside. Enjoyed the live streaming of the first episode of the new Dr Who last night. Extremely comfortable seats. Beautiful venue. Lovely new bar and you can take drinks (even bottles of wine) into the cinema with you. So very civilised. Much better experience than the big multiplexes.

This is the best cinema in Newcastle. Please go here instead of the huge multi-plex options. You can sit at sofas and drink beer! Another reward is comfortable seating, great sound, and audience who watch the film respectfully without chatting and eating all the way through (Odeon special that one), as well as a beautifully illustrated history of Newcastle cinema...
