Took a lovely walk along the beaches from the Priory, lovely clean beaches, super views, pleasant ice cream stops, and the sun was shining all day long.

Three sites in one, but more information on the people who lived/worked there over the centuries would be useful. An attempt is made in the house with the toilets, where there is an activity centre but this is pants. The gun battery could be so much more. But, on a dry day it's a good afternoon's entertainment.
A good place to go on a warmish day as it's quite exposed. I've also been there when it's been raining and still enjoyed my visit but there's not much shelter. Very varied interesting historical stuff there. A small gift shop. No cafe but there are lots in Tynemouth itself.
The ruins are in a wonderful and dramatic position overlooking the sea. The information signs are very helpful as is the guide book. The staff were friendly and helpful too.
Tynemouth Castle and Priory are beautifully situated at the mouth of the river Tyne (how could you guess that!?) and there is lots to see. There is a battery, a fascinating cemetery as well as the remains of the castle and priory. It is a Heritage site so if you have a pass you can get in free. The staff...

This English Heritage site encompasses the castle, the priory, where Saxon kings are buried, and the World War I gun battery. A modern coastguard station is also on site. An added attraction is the magnificent views over the mouth of the Tyne.
A lovely place to visit, walk around and blow away the cobwebs. We came here as part of a weekend visit to Newcastle and it was such a lovely place.
A lovely afternoon spent exploring this fascinating attraction. The priory was outstanding with many astonishing features dating back to the Anglo Saxon era. The remaining part of the priory was a real treasure. The signage was very good, enabling the visitor to understand the history of the site.
It was interesting to have the old and comparatively modern all on...

We were surprised at the uses of the Priory over the centuries, right up to the present day. Plenty of plaques with information, a school room that children can get hands on in and plenty of open areas to walk around in the bracing fresh sea air!
We went to Tynemouth Castle and Priory as an afternoon trip. Although it's a bit small, the ruins are very interesting. The time and elements have worn most of the remaining stones to a rounded edge. The old graveyard has some fascinating headstones dating back to the 1700's. Okay, I found it fascinating. The views of the North Sea from...
