Another gem from the National Trust. The house is fab but will be even better when they invest some more money and open up some more rooms (was used as offices). We had a garden tour with Yvonne, best part of the day, she was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. Mrs Greville was an amazing person and this was reinforced by... More

This was Mrs Greville’s country residence where she entertained VIPs, including Royalty – the Duke and Duchess of York (eventually George VI and Queen Elizabeth) were great friends and spent their honeymoon there and she left them all her jewels in her Will. She left the house and gardens to the National Trust. King Edward VII was at her first... More

This is a wonderful house to visit with some wonderful stories to hear about. The information provided by the friends of the house explain about the owner, a somewhat flamboyant lady who forced her way into society despite not really having the luxurious lifestyle which was a pre-requisite for normal entry to such society. A book has been written about... More

The house tour we did in the morning was really interesting and informative, about the owner Mrs Greville and the lifestyle she created here. The gardens were lovely and very varied, from formal, roses, beautiful herbaceous borders, wonderful, productive vegetable gardens, fruit trees and loads of parkland to wander through. Lovely to see so many families making use of the... More

I visited for the first time with my children (7 and 9) en route to somewhere else, so only stayed a few hours. It would be easy to spend a full day here in good weather. The grounds are vast. We didn't explore them all, but went to the children's play area, rose garden/formal gardens, vegetable garden and chickens. The... More

We did a tour of the house first, some great stories about the family connections. We never did find out the age of the house because it was only bought by Mrs Greville in 1906. Some interesting paintings, shame that there are large parts of the house not open to the public. Quite small garden areas but large parkland with... More

I'm sorry that we didn't come into your top National Trust properties. We hope you'll come back and see us and give us a chance to change your opinion. There is a lot to see, including 1400 acres of countryside and waymarked walks to follow. A beautiful area of copse in the pleasure grounds, a hidden gem in my opinion and... More

As always, enjoyed the house tour with such a variety of ceramics, paintings, furniture. Huge collections beautifully displayed and presented - stunning quality. Gardens magnificent, amazing views. Particularly enjoyed meeting the sewing group, discussing their costume replication and admiring their technical and artistic ability! Restaurant still a bit shambolic. Refit seemed unnecessary as thought it worked well before.

Thank you for your feedback, I was pleased to read your visit to the house and gardens was enjoyable. Our Café has recently been refurbished as part of a wider project including Chartwell and a number of other properties across the London and South East region, in order to improve our catering offer and minimise queuing at peak times. I... More

My daughter and I visited Polesdon Lacey on 15th August. We arrived in time to be offered a taster tour of parts of the house before it opened fully at 12.30 which was great. We then walked around part of the grounds, had a coffee and then lunch before a more leisurely and fuller tour of the house. We ended... More

Two oldies and their offspring all found enjoyment recently on a day out to at Polesden Lacey. The first pleasure was experienced on top of the wide staircase where a volunteer carefully positioned old records on 'a master's voice' grammaphone. Then we watched a film about the late owner of the house, Mrs Greville, a remarkable lady of good fortune.... More
