A day in the country with a stately home, stunning gardens and grounds plus homemade food. All just a few miles from London. The home of a woman who was a true rags to riches staory, Mrs Grevelle. A society hostess who entertained kings and queens, plus film stars such as Charlie Chaplin. As usual the National Trust does a... More

My partner and I had an amazing time visiting this incredible national trust site. We had a lovely hot chocolate from the cafe which kept us warm whilst we took a slow stroll around the site, the views are lovely. We then participated on a guided tour of the house, which was very interesting and the house is beautiful. I... More

I keep coming to Polesden Lacey as it is undoubtedly one of my favourite places to visit. I'm fascinated by the story of Mrs Greville. Most of all I want to thank the most amazing room stewards. They are always so friendly and nice. Well done guys!

Having always been a visitor to National Trust properties, particularly those situated in and around Surrey, I remember having frequented Polseden Lacey years ago. But in this visit, I was astoundingly blown away. What a beautiful and stunning property. Unashamedly English (though it's main inhabitant was a Scottish lady) and a fantastic representation of Best Of British. So much history... More

Make sure you book a guided tour....it's a must if you want to hear the fascinating story about the illegitimate daughter of a Scottish brewer who became one of the most famous hostesses in high society. And how money talks! The house is preserved perfectly as if she had only popped out for a moment. There is even a dining... More

Dear FlyingScotsman150, You're name make me think of Maggie Greville in her own spitfire! Thanks so much for your kind words, we're glad you had such a fabulous time. We called on the first Sunday there where open for the season. The house is magnificent and well worth a visit. What went on behind closed doors set the gossips alight. the gardens are a delight to walk in any time of year and as with any national trust property plenty of much longer walks for the adventurous. our only... Visited for the first time with my wife, greeted with great warmth especially as we are both life time members unlike that at Wakehurst where you are greeted badly when showing the NT card. The grounds are certainly very appealing after the winter period, the views from the back of the house are beautiful where you can easily have great... More

The re-designed restaurant looks great but badly organised. The two flavours of soup on two separate counters so you didn't realise there was an alternative. Kiddies selection had run out of sandwiches at 12.30 in school holidays....having queue to pay whilst staff having to prepare hot drinks orders at the same time..Polesden Lacey is an amazing place and visit often... Check the weather forecast and then visit Polesden Lacey. A wonderful setting to take the Fortnums wicker picnic hamper, some chairs and maybe a small table. Go there for a jazz afternoon when, under the colonnade, they have a quartet playing gentle numbers that waft across the lawns. Jazz days are advertised on the National Trust website. The house, its... More
