We visited Forde Abbey with our dog as we had read that dogs were welcome. We were allowed everywhere ( including the cafe) except for the actual abbey and had a very pleasant few hours there. The fountain is turned on three times a day and was quite surprising in its height! Volunteers and staff were all dry friendly and... More

We visited Forde Abbey and gardens because we could take our dog in the gardens. The gardens are full of interest for everyone with many unusual and colourful plants and flowers. We didn't see any dog mess despite a previous review. The fountain was spectacular and there were many other interesting water features. We found the bog garden particularly impressive... More

Visited in a very Sunny June 2014. Lovely place, don't know if it was just me but the staff on the reception were a little cold to approach & was a little like dealing with automatons rather than Human Beings. On entering you walk through a very pleasant walled Garden with all sorts of Fruits & vegetables growing. At least... More

I took a coach party to Forde Abbey yesterday - a long journey from Surrey, but well worth it. The gardens are really lovely and the house has a wonderful atmosphere and is really interesting. We found the cafe very efficient dealing with a crowd and good value

Visited this on Sunday 6/7/14 was absolutely beautiful there are wonderful gardens to walk around and the house itself is breath taking, a beautiful fountain that they display at intervals. Now then a must see is Twiglet a Shetland pony that is in retirement there and although not confirmed they think he is the oldest pony that exists, he is... More

We visited on a fairly grey July day although the forecast rain turned out to be no more than a few very slight showers of drizzle. Despite this, the fact that we still enjoyed our visit is always a good sign as the greyness meant that Forde wasn't shown off at its best. Anywhere looks better when the sun shines.... More

Take a fine day (summer is especially good but autumn and spring have their own interest) and enjoy this delightful private house and gardens set in beautiful English countryside. Choose a day when the house is open...the extra £2 is worthwhile. Built of honey coloured Ham stone it hosts among other interests, wonderful tapestries, 17th century copies of Raphael's cartoons... We; mum dad and I; went to the gardens on a lovely sunny day. Rang ahead and were able to get the mobility scooter booked for my dad. Without that it would have been hard work to move a manual wheelchair around. The gardens were a pleasant mix with some planted beds and some open views. Well tended by the... More

Beautiful house in beautiful gardens in beautiful county of Dorset, what more could anyone want? The house and gardens are both excellent and staffed by friendly, helpful staff. The entry price is reasonable considering how horrendous the cost of maintaining such a lovely place must be. The food in the restaurant was not expensive considering it was good quality and... More

My wife and I had previously been to Forde Abbey just to walk the dog somewhere nice in Feb/March when there were no staff on and made a donation of a fiver which we though was fair seeing as we were just walking the dog. But today we took my mum and dad and had to pay £9 each! this... More
