We went yo have a look one afternoon, because we were staying in Chard, The Abbey was very interesting, with all the paintings and tapestries. the room were all very good and the beds where so high, how they got on them, they would need a step/ladder. The Gardens had all different beds and also a bog garden, when we... More

Visited on a beautiful sunny day.We had a two for one entry voucher for the garden only. The flower borders were a mass of colour with multi coloured dahlias being the main flower. The lawns were vibrant and spongy.Be sure to check the timetable for when the fountain is turned on on the Mermaid Pool and don't sit on the ship bench... Amazingly well maintained gardens - lawns mowed beautifully, ponds gorgeous, elegant yew topiary tumps, but most impressive of all absolutely beautiful borders exploding with late summer colour. They must have dug out and entirely replanted their herbaceous borders which were a riot of asters, dahlias, solidago, verbena, heliotrope, eupatorium, helenium... Could have been a set of illustrations for a garden... More

Seeing as myself, other half & 2 dogs were on our way home from our short break, we decided to go the scenic route home. We were going to visit wookey hole / cheddar gorge, but at £19 pp we decided not to. Instead twiglet - the 48 year old horse - swayed us to visit forde abbey ( only... More

Tricky to get to down tight country roads between towering hedges, this abbey is totally worth the trip. Nestled in a beautiful spot, the lush woodlands and flower gardens, and the hard-working estate garden, are a riot of life, colour and scents. The building itself, all the more beautiful because of it's visible history and age, is in immaculate shape... More

Staying in the area so only a short journey; plenty of on-site parking available. Entry is via the gift shop and through to a lovely working kitchen garden with plenty of crop variety, we counted over twenty species of sweet pea, this area also provides crops and flowers for the cafe and house owner/occupiers. The cafe is good value for... More

Long trip to Forde Abbey from Sussex but well worth it. Visited Forde Abbey many years ago and loved it then. Flower beds are inspirational and vistas good from the house we never actually got to see the fountain working only on at certain times and when we visited there was heavy showers so missed it. Despite visiting on a really wet day, Forde Abbey turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday. The gardens were beautiful and there was plenty of space for our three young children to run about and explore. We particularly liked the bog garden, with all its secret pathways and bridges. The house attendants were very welcoming and... More
