Wow! A French moated castle in Somerset. Be prepared to have your breath taken away by this gem. There isn't a lot of detailed information about the building itself - you have to use your imagination! We were so pleased we took a detour off our route. A bonus is that because it is unmanned (free access during daylight hours)... More

We walked to Nunney and had the pleasure of the surprise of first catching sight of the castle as we turned a corner in the main street. I seemed almost unreal, looming over the village like that, and is very impressive. Kids will love it, because it has all the qualities of a castle - keep, a moat with fish... More

We stopped here on a lovely sunny day and very glad we did. The castle is just ruins but it's still immense to look at . It's very quiet relaxing and peaceful and doesn't take long to look around but worth it all the same. We looked around the church too which was also pretty amazing. There were ducks and... More

Nunney Castle is a ruin but well worth a visit to soak up the atmosphere and marvel at the work that must have been undertaken in order to build such a magnificent structure that is still standing after hundreds of years. Nunney Village is a treasure and the locals are very friendly.

This is a small castle in a quaint little village. It's free and will only take 5-10 minutes to explore but it's certainly worth a visit if you are close by. The remains are actually quite impressive with the curtain walls and towers almost complete. It's quite small but the village is worth a wander, the church is nice and... More

As a local I visit the castle regularly (not as often as I should) this is a great place come for a quiet stroll or walk. I will often take a book and spend a couple hours in the beautiful grounds of the castle reading. A word of caution though young children do need to be watched as the castle... More

We visited the castle as its easy to photograph. There was no cost to visit and it was quiet. We spent about an hour at the castle, but 30 min should be long enough to look around.

We stopped in Nunney on a lark while driving from Glastonbury to Avebury (yes, it was the name). We were rewarded with a beautiful little village with an amazingly lovely (and unusual) castle- complete with a moat! The village, church, and castle are definitely worth a visit- don't just drive by.

The castle is a great place to go to spend a short time, even with kids. Then you can always feed the ducks just down the road😊

This 14th century castle looks pretty well conserved from one angle, but the rear aspect shows how it has been ruined. Built by a not particularly rich nobleman in the early 1300s who was a bit upwardly mobile in court circles, this is a diminutive but rather beautiful example of a country castle cum residence. The village and church also... More
