Great for a walk or bike ride, specially in summer. If you need a pub stop there are a lot of restaurants and pubs nearby, as the canal strolls all over the city centre and Oracle shopping centre.

Canal area is lovely for walks etc but having driven from Devizes particularly to visit the tea rooms was very disappointed to find they are closed on a Monday and Tuesday!

Just returned from a week long holiday on the kennet and Avon canal from Hilperton to Bath. Must say how good ABC Boat hire canal boats are with all facilities on board. Unfortunately for holiday makers, moorings throughout the route are extremely limited. This is due to the number of poorly maintained and what look like abandoned vessels taking up... More

You can travel from the Thames at Horeshoe bridge (near Tesco) all the way to Aldermaston and back in an afternoon. Lots of pretty tow paths and canal scenery.

We love the cycle path. It is well maintained and easy to walk or cycle. Scenic route and you seem to cover more mileage than when using a road!

The Tea Room at Aldermaston Wharf: Back in September a review by Paul M said that he hoped this tea room did hot meals in the winter. Yes it does! Between us we had jacket potatoes with coronation chicken topping, and with prawn topping, hot soup and rolls and a large ploughman's. Oh - the ploughman's wasn't hot lol. Leaf... More

Worth a wander along, there are some quieter stretches which are really pretty, you get to see the river Kennet too. We often walk along the stretch near Reading but cycle further along as far as Newbury too.

I live in Reading for part of the year, and as an active runner I use the footpaths of the Kennet and Avon very frequently. I start my run at my apartment near Prospect Park and run directly through Southcote and join the footpaths at the Southcote Mill. I then run east past the new bird sanctuary over the wier... More

There are some lovely quiet walks along the Kennet and Avon. I'd recommend the stretches in and around Theale, Reading, Sonning, Henley and Marlow, particularly if you enjoy a nice "pub stop". We had a great walk around the new Fobney Island nature reserve in Reading. It is a great little reserve with bird hides etc and it links up... More

Always good for a walk along the canal on a summer evening, not so goo if you have a fear of cows as some parts of the path can go through cow occupied fields.
