We have been enameled by the canal. We love walking along the canal and marveling at how far you can travel either by boat or along the path running beside the canal. We also recently went to visit the Caen Locks near Devizes where there are over 16 successive locks that climb a hill. It is well worth the trip.... More

A nice walk when the weather's good. Though it gets dodgy when it's dark. Would not recommend walking alone after sundown.

The top half (Reading end) is ideal for cycling with children, as the railway follows the canal, so not only is it off-road but if you start at a station , then you can cycle as far as the children want to ride and then hop on a train back ! Not only has this canal got beautiful scenery, but... More

A cider and dinner experience at "Back of Beyond" - cool cider, great food and lovely service. Do not miss it if you visit Reading.

I would love to rent on the canal new appartement buildings that rise in Reading. It is quiet and you think you live in Venice even though you're at the center of the city. The canal is great for a walk although if a woman you must do it in rush hour due to safety reasons.

I used to go along the canal for three months with my bicycle for working reasons and I have really enjoyed my time in this beautiful place . I met people coming from Bristol following the canal with the bicycle ! The people that you can meet on the canal, walking, cycling or going on their narrow boats are amazing,... More

Lovely river occasionally ruined by some drunko's sitting around drinking. Nice to feed the ducks and swans in the sun though.

We cycled from Reading to Bristol over three days. We are not cyclists but found the going relatively achievable. We enjoyed every minute, lots of lovely places to stop for tea and cake. We had a lovely trip but did end up a bit saddle sore!

We spend a lot of time up and down the canal, either on a boat, on a bike or on 2 and 4 legs respectively... Dog in tow! Whilst the railway line touches it along the way, it remains peaceful and scenic and not overcrowded. There are good places to eat and The Rowbarge at Woolhampton is definitely one to... More
