I love this walk and do it as often as I can. It is not direct, so you have to check it out on the map at the entrance or online before you set off. There are few points where you have to come back to road level, cross the road and continue, but they are all easy roads to... More

The Kennet & Avon Canal, which runs from Reading to Bath, is a delight to follow along its entire length, whether on a canal boat, or by walking along the towpath. With its numerous excellent pubs, and interesting towns, there is something for everyone, and you will not be disappointed.

If you want a nice peaceful walk then the Kennet & Avon Canal is for you. The walks can be long of just a short walk from lock to lock or bridge to bridge, there are some pubs along the way for some well-earned refreshments.

The pioneering work of volunteers in the 1970s has well and truly paid off with a wonderful restored waterway - we've enjoyed various parts of it, including in Newbury where there is an interesting visitor centre.

A good woodland walk just outside the town centre Lots of birds to see. But not a lot of seats so take a blanket or something to sit on

A very quiet backwater in Reading and as you walk along it you can find the hidden history of Reading but also provides a vibrant background for the outside café culture in the Orical

We hired a narrowboat in Aldermaston and travelled to Hungerford and back in five days.Great boat from ABC boathire, clean and well equipped. The mainline railway runs close to the canal all the way so there is some noise and there are some quite industrial, scruffy areas. Overall though the canal is beautiful, quite challenging at times with some strong... More

Through reading town centre is fine 7/10. Through the industrial area 5/10. Past the terraced houses 8/10. Lovely river to the cunning man 8/10. The cunning man itself 2/10 don't bother. A hard going canal expect to do 10 - 14 locks a day for 6 - 8 hours travel we average 1.6 mph. Locks are of a poor construction... More
