I had a weekend canal boat trip on the Kennet and Avon Canal to Newbury and loved every minute. It was hard work with two people managing a narrow boat but not impossible. But an absolutely lovely way to see nature at its best (especially if the sun is out) There are lots of places to stop of and visit... More

This is entered in TripAdvisor as something to do in Reading. Hmm - yes, the canal goes through the centre as a strip of dirty brown water, but the real beauty of the canal is more to be seen when you get out into the countryside between Reading and Newbury. The towpaths give an easy, flat walk for the majority... More

Kennet and Avon Canal We walked part of the towpath with friends today, through the city of Bath. We found it enchanting, captivating, picturesque. How many locks? So many, and the backdrop of beautiful Bath. Wonderfully adorned longboats - and so much more to see.

My wife and I have been taking strolls down this canal for a while now. The train service between Reading and Newbury allows you to break up the journey and do it in sections. It is mostly quite level being a canal and although it will get muddy the path is quite reasonable so long as you take the right... More

When in Reading we enjoyed a walk along the Canal from the Oracle. A great setting to watch the narrow boats go past. Also a number of ideal places to sit and have a drink or coffee and take in the sights. Later we saw the country setting while having lunch at a pub next to the canal. An idyllic... More

Its my favourite place for an evening jog at Reading. Its got a well maintained towpath and quite scenic. I suggest trying a jog upto Caversham as its lovely. For people who just want to spend time chatting and having a drink, this place has many pubs that also offer meals and snacks.

It's a lovely part of the river system and many a fire brigade carry out rescues here for safety. Whether by boat or walking by the banks you will. It be disappointed.

Parked car at The George Bathampton and then cycled along the Canal to Bradford on Avon. Beautiful scenery, well maintained towpath, Dundas Aqueduct is a lovely structure and lots of varied Canal barges which are mostly lived in. Several Pubs and Cafes along the way offering meals or snacks with relaxing views and facilities. Cycled back to Bathampton and had... More
