We think this is a very good museum but the only thing that spoilt out trip was a very rude member of staff accusing us of taking photos. There were two couples in the room, us and another couple. She told us we couldn't take photos, we said we didn't so she went to the other couple and told them... More

I love the museum the staff are lovely and very welcoming. I knew someone doing voluntary work there and they were great with helping him. The building is lovely and the staff are well clued up on the history behind it. Worth a visit.

Had an hour to wait and popped in. What a fabulous place. So much to see and take in. It was midweek, midday and quiet! No hustling crowds and it was bliss. I will definitely return and spend longer.

One of the best local museums around focused on Reading - which has more history than you'd think The copy of the Bayeux tapestry has pride of place and is lot easier to see than the original in Normandy The Silchester excavations are also well handled but they are good at staying up to date - specials on the local... This is one of my favourite local museums, with lots of information and exhibits about the history and people (and stuffed wildlife) of Reading. Don't miss the copy of the Bayeux tapestry or the gallery of biscuit tin lids (yes, really :) )

Lovely Museum situated in the center of Reading, full of local information and history. Displays are done well and has kids in mind for trips. Staff are very helpful, have a positive attitude and are very knowledgeable in the museum displays, local history and local area. They are also great at giving directions! I spent a very enjoyable morning in this free museum which forms part of the Town Hall. It is fairly small but has a wide range of exhibits and I particularly enjoyed the gallery on the long and interesting history of Reading and the Silchester gallery, with many of the fascinating finds from that important Roman town site. The standard... More

I was in the city museum for a conference (our session was in one of their meeting rooms). The building is absolutely beautiful. Also, our conference Keynote was in the ballroom. I understand that it's newly restored and it was a site to be seen! The exhibitions in the museum have something for everyone. From a copy of the Bayeux... More

I visited the museum with my 2,5 years old daughter in a rainy morning. The museum is small and I think it is a little jewel. It tells you the history of Reading from the very beginning: from the time of the ancient Romans to nowadays. There is also a room with animals. It is silent and very quite, but... More

Kids were driving us up the wall one wet/snowy/cold (tick here) day, so the Mrs suggested we pop in and have a look. Nice surprise, not only was there some interesting history for adults on Reading and the surrounds but also plentiful games for the kids - I'd say age 3 up would be most suitable though we pushed our...
