Oxford Castle Unlocked explores the 1000-years of Oxford's History. Led by one of our costumed character guides, the rich history of the castle with a prison at its heart will be revealed to you. Climb St. George's Tower and take in the stunning views before descending into the atmospheric crypt, along the 18th century prison wing and into archaic man-made mound.

There are many different guides in this museum. Fortunately we had a very good one. But some other groups were not as lucky it seems.

Many thanks for your review and I'm glad at least you and your group had a very good time. Because of the very nature of the space and its inhabitants, each tour and tour guide is unique. We aim to ensure consistency across the team and review the tours regularly. However it's a shame that you heard of others not... More

We took a friend here who was visiting from another country, as we like to se those opportunities to see tourist attractions. We wish we had done this one earlier! The attraction is set in part of the original castle. Very informative guides dressed in character (we had a former inmate, a highwayman who had been there for over 200... More

They did a good job to open this once neglected site in Oxford and the results are positive. Good attraction with plenty of gory detail which should it make it fun for the whole family.

My husband and I visited Oxford for our first time on the weekend. We took a guided walking tour which was okay, but lacked passion. We were so relieved with the difference by the guide at the Castle, Keptch, he was fantastic. Lots of character, knowledgable and really bought the history of the castle and Oxford to life. Suitable for... More

Not cheap but well worth a visit and particularly if you enjoy your history. Your entrance fee ensures a guided tour with a guide dressed for the part. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and there were young and more mature on the tour. Give it a go!

Spent a great hour looking round this fascinating Castle with a superb guide dressed in period costume. Climbed right up the Saxon tower for a wonderful view of Oxford steps are a bit steep but not a problem to us. It was a prison until 1996 and the cells were cool according to my 6 year old Granddaughter ! All... More

You are taken around by someone from Oxford history and they are always in character. King Stephen approached me in the gift shop! Quite a few great facts to learn. I found everyone very helpful and willing to answer questions. Could have been more gruesome for me though. Everyone likes horrible history.
