Oxford Castle Unlocked explores the 1000-years of Oxford's History. Led by one of our costumed character guides, the rich history of the castle with a prison at its heart will be revealed to you. Climb St. George's Tower and take in the stunning views before descending into the atmospheric crypt, along the 18th century prison wing and into archaic man-made mound.

We had a really great family day out at oxford castle! The tour was really fun and we all learnt a lot. My 8 year old daughter has amazed her grandparents with how much she remembered so thank you king Stephen for making it so memorable! The only down side was that we booked online the same day before we... More

Well worth the money. An interesting guided tour we were taken round by Anne Green a character of yesteryear. We were taken around the castle and the grounds and despite the rain the views were good. The spiral staircase leading to the top of the castle is not that great if you are unsteady on your feet or slightly claustrophobic... More

Recently visited as it was right next door to the Malmaison hotel we were staying in and we had discounted tickets. What's more, we love castles and learning about history. It is advertised that tours take place every 20-minutes, but it is advisable to book in advance on weekends. This can be done directly in the museum shop. Don't expect... More

Having arrived in Oxford for a Bank holiday day out we were greeted by the wettest day of the weekend, with three teenagers in tow we decided an indoor venue should be found. We already knew of Oxford castle having used the excellent tea room on another visit but didn't tour the castle. What a treat of a place, the... More

A really good day out in Oxford, visiting the castle. This attraction is well hidden but so close to the city centre. It has been restored very sympathetically and now forms part of a hotel and office complex. However the main attraction still very much look like a prison. I purchased the tickets online which was quite easy. The kids... More

Such a fasinating place with such a wide and varied history; I had no idea. We took the tour which was fasinating to both myself, other adults and my children; he pitched it just right. Getting to the top of the tower was a highlight and the views were amazing.

It was a horrible rainy day so we instantly thought the castle. It was great, we where shown round towers, crypts, up on the roof top tower and the jail. Very informative and well worth doing. The guides know a lot of history.I must add thet on our walk to the castle we did get scammed by a pregnant lady......apparently... More

stayed at the Malmasion hotel in Oxford for a long weeked with my husband. As we were guests the castle tour was discounted which was great. There were just 4 of us on the tour and our guide was excellant. The whole history of the castle is explained before taking the steps up to the top of the tower. The... More

The fact the the guide is in character (as in speaks in first person) about his experience in prison really makes this guided tour worth it! I wouldn't say that there is a lot to see overall but the tour is very knowledgable. Going up the stairs of the tower can make some people dizzy but it wasn't anything hard... More
