The attraction offers a 40-minute guided tour with a costumed character from the castle’s history, exploring the Saxon stone-built St. George’s Tower, the atmospheric crypt, the preserved prison wing and the archaic man-made mound, offering breathtaking views across Oxford’s dreaming spires. « less

Was luck enough to stay in the hotel which in its self is an experience . So wanted to see the rest of the castle It's fascinating had an excellent gipsy guide. Unlike other comment we had plenty of time at the top of the tower and the views where amassing . She filled us in on the true life... More

We visited here while staying at the hotel next door. I didn't get the tour guides names but he was very enthusiastic about the castle and local area and very knowledgeable about the history of the castle and the site, quite a funny guy too. Really interesting to see the underneath of the castle and the old prison which isn't... More

great guide, good knowledge ran over by 10mins, lots of narrow stairs on spiral staircase up and down, quite dark not enough time to look out from tower, especially as I had to wait until everyone else had finished and come down from platform before i went up!

We had an excellent guide who explained the history of the castle in great detail. Good amount of humuor. Great views of Oxford from the tower but would have liked a little longer up there. It was good to be able to walk around yourself at the end looking at the cells. This was definitely money well spent.

Overpriced and a little boring really. Sorry to be blunt. The staff were very friendly but I feel the attraction has been dragged out a bit... theres not really enough to see to justify the entrance price.

Took a friend here and we went on the tour of the castle/prison. The history is amazing, going back hundreds of years. The walk up the tower was worth it, with great views of Oxford, It requires a good level of fitness to do the tour, but a great afternoon.

£10 per head buys you a moderately interesting tour of two empty rooms in a smelly old tower, an even smellier old crypt and a few dingy prison cells. The view of the 'dreaming spires' from the top of the mound ? You're kidding, right ? The spires are just about visible over the top of some modern office blocks... More

Tour lasted only 20mins, would've liked to seen and heard a few more stories, but it was still a good tour. We did miss a few minutes at the beginning, even though we were there on time for the start of the tour, it somehow started without us, no one shouted around the gift shop to say it was starting... The tour of the old castle is a little expensive, but well worth the cost. It was interesting and informative with some lovely places close by for a bite to eat or a couple of drinks before or after. Really enjoyed the day
