This attraction was interesting, but we expected more dramatics and spooky story telling, which was portrayed from the brochure. Worth a look if you are interested in the history of the Castle.

I was a little worried that this was going to be corny with the tour guide portraying a character, but Mr. Barker, an 1870's jailor, had just the right mix of his own personality and that of his character. It was a very interesting tour which showed the history of the town, rather than just the colleges. It is unbelievable... More

Thank you for your review and I'm very glad you enjoyed it so much. We do like our guides to offer up some of the presence the characters they portray would have had, but you're right that its all about the balance. As for the stories we tell, the Castle and then the prison have been at the heart of... More

This part ruined castle is not so much imposing now but it must have been back in the time. The crypt is really spooky and the arguably the best part of the castle. It's really eerie and the cells where prisoners were locked still have a creepy feeling to them. It's a must see if you are visiting Oxford and... More

Wonderful to have your feedback thank you. Can't wait to see your thoughts come the new year when we bring in our new lighting developments and turn the crypt and ground floor back into what they would have originally been like. Expect sounds, smells and an atmosphere that should really live up to the eerie and creepy feeling you got... More

You have to visit this castle to understand what life was hundreds of years ago in England. There are a number of towers. One of them is Prison Debtors' Tower built to imprison debtors who owed money.Prisoners remained in prison until they paid their debts. I like that idea!! There is a hotel in the compound. Nice one.

If only it was as simple as them paying off their debts and getting out. Sadly for the prisoners they also had to buy their bedding, food and drink from the governor, so many only increased the amount they owed during their time inside. How did they ever get out I hear you ask, well the governor offered them jobs... More

Having a couple of days in Oxford and wandering around the Castle we came across a gentleman in Prison Warders Uniform, he was so enthusiastic about the castle and the tour we could not pass up his offer to attend. It was a truly fantastic brilliant witty knowledgeable and informative tour, Mr Covington was our tour guide and what a... More

As fans of horror films and attractions, I booked two tickets for my girlfriend's birthday to the Terror Tuesday event at Oxford Castle Unlocked. We have both lived in Oxfordshire for all of our lives but have never been inside this attraction. We have been to the Saw walk-through ride at Thorpe Park, Scarefest at Alton Towers and London Dungeons... More

Well if there is a better endorsement of our Terror Tuesday event I've not seen it. Thank you for coming down and I'm pleased that, even though it was different to the other attractions you've visited, you got so much out of it. We know we approach it with a slight twist to others, but at the back of our... More

Well worth the £10 admission - good and interesting tour which lasts about an hour and then plenty of time to go round the museum. Had not realised it was still a working prison until quite recently

Tour guided by 'Mary Blundy' was very enjoyable - the place has an interesting history. Included a climb to the top for a view of the city. The museum was also interesting and informative. Well worth a visit

well worth the entry fee. We had a really good guide, who was meant to be a prisoner in the castle; he had us all in stitches throughout! tried to convince us that the crypt is haunted, but I wasn't falling for that one!

I'm really glad you enjoyed your visit, even if you didn't see any ghosts. I'll have to have a word with Brother Bernard and see why he didn't appear the day you came. He'll be upset that he missed the opportunity to scare some innocent guests. More

This was a really interesting visit learning about all the history which is literally just a few miles from my home. Strange how you miss the good stuff on your own doorstep. We did the whole tour and wend deep to the crypt. The tour guide added a lot to the visit by adding little bits of the thousand year... More

A perfect all round review (apart from the missing 5th star) and one that sums up our experience very well, so thank you. Just to comment on the heading, I think you are right that we are not an all day attraction and I hope we don't mislead anyone into thinking we are. We have some amazing spaces, a fantastic... More
