We took a spur of the moment visit to the exhibition today and it rounded our oxford visit off perfectly! Our tour guide Black Bess was excellent and revealed some of the incredible stories of the past prisoners, particularly the women. As well as climbing the tower, you can also enjoy a look around the museum and a visit to... More

We enjoyed our visit to the old Oxford Castle jail, brought to life by actor-tour guides. Unfortunately though we found the tour itself very short, after which we were left to wander through and read the stories of various prisoners by ourselves. Thus we felt like its wasn't such good value for money. What is interesting is that this was... More

Wow! What an amazing place to visit. Our tour guide was fabulous and the knowledge he had of the history of the castle & prison was just superb. When our guide was telling us the history, it felt like you were there back in time. Remarkable!. It was our first visit and can't wait to go back again! We took... More

My granddaughter and I loved our visit to Oxford Castle and were delighted with our guide Shula she was really great. It was quite scary in the one section but we loved it.

I hadn't expected a guided tour of the castle, but am glad we had such an entertaining and delightful tour guide -- Gypsy. She was in character as an 18th century convict, and does a lovely job of customizing her patter to the group. We were lucky -- only four in our group, so we really got to take our... More

My wife, mother in law and I always try to get out and see something on New Year's Day to break the post Christmas blues. Normally we tend to go for a stately home and walk, but this year could not find anything of that ilk nearby (having moved into the area only recently). On a whim we decided to... More

We are local to Oxford and were looking for something to do on our annual 'New Years Day' outing. Normally this consists of a visit to one of the local stately homes but, as these were closed for the winter, we were forced to try something new. Having stumbled across a mention of this online, we decided to give it... More

A personal tour, how lucky, and with your very own drunken thief. What better way to spend New Years day with your husband. As always I'm so pleased you had such a great time. Gypsy will be happy she was able to make it an enjoyable visit and that she wasn't tripped up by your husbands history knowledge. More

Clearly a hard man to impress so I'm glad you enjoyed your visit and thank you for your review. You're right that it's quieter in the mornings but we never over subscribe our tours, so it wont ever be crowed once you get going. In fact the more people you have the better I think, it means there's less chance... More

My partner and I went on this not really knowing what to expect. My partner is an open hater of guided tours but agreed to do the tour as it was something I wanted to do. As it turned out he loved this tour. Our guide was fantastic and really knew the facts about the castle and responded well to... More

Thank you so much for your review, and it being your first one as well, I'm really pleased we delivered. I also like to hear the guides are being tested, the more questions they get the happier they are (I promise). More
