We love folk tales, fairytales, classics and, of course, Shakespeare. You don’t need a theatre building to make great theatre. The magic happens all over Oxford. We seek out places that have never been used for theatre before, and bring them to life. Our shows are beautiful, ugly, fast, furious, wacky, twisted, surprising, spooky, magical, daring, haunting, challenging, inspiring, hilarious, sexy, sassy, cheeky… but never predictable.16 years, 45 shows, 350,000 audience members aged 5-95…we are Oxford’s own Creation Theatre Company. « less

Saw Creation's production of Macbeth last week and was blown away. The company has found a brilliant venue in the gardens of Lady Margaret Hall and they use the building to great effect throughout.

I always tell people "see Creation". I have watched them avidly for years. However, last night's Macbeth was poor. Creation are getting too clever for their own good - the set dwarfed the performances and our table (we had premium seats on the front row) had problems seeing the actors as they were often too far away, and standing directly... I am a fan of Creation but this Macbeth was a mild disappointment. The back drop of L.M. H. was very imposing but overpowering for this small scale performance. Brilliant acting from the man himself but I did not get The WW1 kit and Lady Macbeth - the most powerful person on stage was dressed out of sync and very... More

Really enjoyed this adapted production of Macbeth last night. We were very lucky to have such a fine evening to enjoy the wonderful facilities of Lady Margaret Hall and to be amazed by how this Shakespearean masterpiece adapted so well to the Great War Costumes and production in the late 19th century grounds and garden. At first I was confused... More

The staging and acting in Creation Theatre's performance of Macbeth is simply stunning. Great use of space and lighting.

I am a regular at Creation's summer and winter shows and am never disappointed. This was a new venue and a very beautiful memorable one. I liked the use of the windows and the roof, even if it kept you on your toes wondering where to look next. The sound was very good I thought, the actors could always be... More

Visually stunning, wonderfully acted, if a little confusing at times. Creation are always worth a ticket.

We have been to several Creation productions over the years and always had a rewarding and enjoyable time. However, on this occasion good acting was lost on a stage that was too big. You did not know where the actors would appear from next. A dark, threatening, claustrophobic atmosphere had no chance in this beautiful, expansive, open air, venue. Better... More

This was a really enjoyable production of Macbeth. Unfortunately for ourselves and the cast the British Weather decreed that the performance had to be inside, but this made for a very intimate production with Macbeth stealing crisps from the audience, and various characters appearing in the seats. My 9 and 10 year old children thoroughly enjoyed it - although they... More

The actors struggled against the setting of this Macbeth in a World War 1 hospital, which felt like an imposition on a good story rather than adding anything to it (and I am not someone who expects all my Shakespeare to be done in 17th century dress). The themes in Macbeth are universal, but once you put on World War... More
