3 galleries to walk around.....discuss with your partner about what is art and what isn't.....and then when you can't agree, go and sit on the lower floor and patio area to have a lovely fresh pot of tea, glass of wine or beer.....a very chilled place to while away the odd hour. Great gift shop, relaxed feel, free entry....!!

A lovely gallery close to the centre of Nottingham with interesting displays. I visited with my grandchildren during May half term as activities for children were advertised. We went to look round the first gallery but felt most uncomfortable as we were continually watched and as soon as we went close to exhibits we were told not to touch. We... More

I enjoy art from an onlooker's perspective. I am no artist and am not interested in the history of pieces. I like to look and make my own mind up about what I am presented with. This lovely light gallery is split into three main viewing areas housing the most amazing range of work, beautifully displayed and maintained. I enjoyed... More

A stone's throw from the crazy concourses of Nottingham shopping is a tranquil haven of art, strangeness and the bizarre. Yes there is a useful cafe and toilet, and a neat gift and book shop but most of all there is an expected cornucopia of all things creative - you'll hate some, be confused by others, feel challenged and amused... Great exhibit, first I went into the cafe to which I to my pleasant surprise was a jazz band playing live music and delicious very reasonably priced food and drink! Then Upstairs through the wonderful exhibition which had some of my favourite artists in including Bacon, Hepworth and Auerbach! I also enjoyed just looking at the wonderful architecture of the... I enjoy art, and although some of the exhibits were good far too many of them were simply mundane and of limited interest. I am actually appalled at how much some of these artists must have been paid for their mediocre exhibts that could have come out of a below average GCSE class. Was free, so at least I did... More

some Disabled access , doors wide and lifts. The group who investigated the venue had mixed feelings about the Gallery, and to be fair, it depends what is being exhibited. There are lots of events though , so the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery is worth more than one visit!

Our first visit during the school hols with my 5 and 3 year old children with mother in law and we were followed around constantly by the rather abrupt staff. I felt that I shouldn't be there! As an art lover, I have visited several galleries with my children and never had this kind of reception. Won't be going again... More

Contemporary has a rotating display in the galleries on the main level. Some of these seem to stay for a long time and some not so. I've usually found them interesting. Not all exhibitions are suitable for the whole family although usually there is something child friendly. On Saturdays and during the school holidays they have excellent free children's activities... Went to see a band play in the cafe bar area one Saturday evening. After 9 pm they would only serve drinks inc beer and wine in plastic ,very weak wobbly cups. Being adults and out on a Saturday evening we were expecting a nice drink in a nice glass, how wrong were we, anyone would think we were at... More
