A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

We had planned for a whole day out with a picnic but were disappointed that we only spent an hour there as there was not much to see or do, not even a castle!! The castle itself was more of a small stately home with pottery and artwork inside on display, not a single suit of armour or cannon in... More

We loved our visit to the castle. The art gallery and museums were really interesting, could've spent longer in there, but hadn't allowed enough time. The museum of Nottingham life is also great. Very good value for the entrance fee. Very good cafe too, very pleasant atmosphere, and the gift shop is packed full of good quality goods, of all... More

Nice museum but smaller than I anticipated. Great views avaiable over the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Not really a castle, more an art gallery and museum.

Don't visit expecting a castle...it is in fact a museum. Worth a look if in the area, I made the mistake of making a special visit. Tour of dungeons salvaged my experience but was extra money.

After a £15.00 famiy ticket on entry cost alone, inside the castle , there was very little to see . I was expecting a lot more history exhibited, but was sadly dissapointed . The cost was not reflective of the experience . My 8 &6 year olds shan't be cherishing this visit. At least we can say we saw and... More

We arrived expecting Robin Hood and maid Marion all around. Well weren't we in for an afternoon of learning! The gates were awe inspiring and we were left to wonder how imposing the castle must have been. We enjoyed a tour of the tunnels that lead from the castle to the street below and were very surprised to learn of... More

If you're in the area, then it's worth a visit, but otherwise it's not worth going out of your way. The museum inside the castle isn't bad, and the cave tour is brief but interesting. Decent cafe and gift shop. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. FYI, the castle dates from the 1670's.

This Museum contains a fine picture gallery of high quality paintings and a nice collection of memorabilia. The display, unfortunately, is aimed at school children thus degrading the whole experience. Worse still, the Museum owns a superb collection of Roman sculptures from the sanctuary of Diana at Lake Nemi, near Rome, which is in storage. This is a pity. The... More

Excellent value, interesting exhibitions. Reasonably priced gift shop. Ideal to spend a couple of hours looking around the exhibitions, then a rest in the cafe
