A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

This is a great way to spend an afternoon. The castle grounds are beautiful, the museum exhibits are interesting and so many activities are geared towards children.

Worth a visit. It is a museum. Lovely grounds. Also a cave tour, which you have to do while in the castle grounds. We went back to do the cave tour another day and we would have had to pay to go in the castle again. There is a nice café, inside the building. It took us approx. two and... More

Went to nottingham castle with my partner as I am really interested int he Robin Hood legends.... maybe this was a bit of a native reason to go as several other historic people lived here too and there seemed to be very little mention of robin hood on the information boards. However I think calling this place 'nottingham castle' is... More

This castle really is built on the highest point of the town and still dominates the skyline today. The grounds are beautifully kept and are a real credit and the castle is quite imposing, but to be honest is not at all what we were expecting as it is more like a huge mansion than a castle(I think we must have been... This should be named Nottingham Castle Site as there isnt actually a castle there, theres a gate house and a museum but no castle, we paid £6 each and felt conned, i was going to ask for our money back but my husband wouldnt let me. The only interesting bit would have been the caves but you had to pay... More

Visiting the Notts Castle is more of an outing to a museum, to see the exhibits. Albeit there is local historical value and a walk down into Mortimer's Hole is interesting. The stories shared by the tour guide were very good. I enjoyed the visit, but don't expect to go into a full-blown castle that dot the country's vast landscape.

I remember when I arrived by train in 1977 I always thought that Nottingham Castle is a bit of a disappointment to look at but we had visitors from South Africa and everyone loves a bit of History especially Robin Hood History !! So it was a bit of normal English Sumners days - overcast and chilly!! So we didn't... More

We enjoyed an hour or so here last weekend, it's nice to walk around the grounds and look around. The main thing we noted was the staff - everyone was so lovely and helpful and enthusiastic. Walking around a few times staff came up to us asking what we thought of the exhibits and telling us about different pieces and... More

Gardens are lovely to stroll around and you can see all over Nottingham (not that there is that many pretty things to see in Nottinghams skyline). The castle has some very nice children friendly exhibitions and I don’t mind admitting that I tried on some of the costumes myself as we went around. Some of the art is very impressive,... More
