A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

We took a friend from Leicester who doesn't know Nottingham. The castle itself is quite interesting and the collections are amazing. However we decided to take a guided trip down Mortimers hole, the guide was terrific extremely knowledgeable with a touch of humour, he brought the place to life. Although I am Nottingham born and interested in history I learnt... More

The grounds around the area are lovely and when there's an event on there's a lovely atmosphere. It's not really a castle and as a building it's not that impressive. But, the grounds are worth a visit for some great views of the city.

Mainly indoor attraction, combining history and art. Would recommend going when good weather though because it has lovely grounds.

There was a food and drink event on which was nice loads of market stalls and live music with kids entertainment and a punch and Judy show which we haven't seen since we were kids! the castle itself is also worth a visit especially with little ones, its very interactive and has a lot of dressing up the kids will... Going straight to the point, there's no castle! The former castle was demolished and on this site a ducal mansion was built. Today this mansion is used as and art gallery and museum. I wouldn't recommend to visit this site to whomever is eager to explore a castle. However, if you can get for cheap (group/student discounts etc.) it will... More

This place is good to visit and there are things to see and do like go on tours under the castle, see how Robin Hood lived and see how things were in the old days

a fair bit to see inside as is also a museum but no free layout of the place to ensure you got to see everything, so not convinced we did see it all. Nice cafe inside with big comfy sofas to rest on after your walk round. Good interesting section on the local army corp.

Visitors to Nottingham always expect to see turrets and castellations. It's not that kind of castle, and could be prosecuted under The Trades Descriptions Act I expect! :-) That said, it is a well laid out museum, and well worth a visit for it's tidily laid out displays of exhibits with a link to the city's past.

From the exterior this at first glance strikes you as very mundane for a castle complex, lacking unlike others soaring ramparts, moats and obvious defences. however on entering the ground you are struck by the beauty of the gardens the welcome of the staff and the depth of history. The castle does in fact stand quite proudly overlooking the city and... Castle is situated on arise in the middle of Nottingham. Pay to get in family tickets were available when we were there and concessions too. Beautiful gardens ,with statues ,Edwardian band stand. Spectacular views of Nottingham from the castle walls. Glass wall sections, for those with good head for heights, telescopes and raised terraces for leisurely walks. Inside over three... More
