A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

I have lived in the area for approx 20 years and this is my first visit to the Castle. Being more used to castles looking like Bamburgh in Northumberland this was a suprise. Did not stay long as we were subjected to a monsoon downpour. Saw enough to go back again (on a dry day)

In Nottingham we are known worldwide for the legend of Robin Hood (if only the council would make more of it and capitalise on it), the Sheriff of Nottingham and Nottingham Castle. The first thing anyone from outside the city wonders, when they come to the castle, is 'where is it?' The castle that people expect ceased to be hundreds... More

The castle is definitely worth visiting especially on a nice day. Entry for students was £4 which was fairly reasonable and entitles you to enter and view the castle both on ground level and on the top of the castle overlooking York City. There are helpful members of staff who are enthusiastic and willing to tell you more about certain... More

Visited the castle with my boys Sam 11 and David 16 on the weekend. They totally enjoyed the experience. The place is free to enter and has a very scenic view with a lush lawn, souvenir shops.

A great mixture of museum and an Art gallery - some of the art is contemporary, some so contemporary it's not actually art, but someone decided to include it with some of the other, fine artwork that is there. The Museum displays are wonderful, educational engaging experience. One of the fine aspects of the

After the civil war Cromwell ordered stronghold like Nottingham Castle to be "slighted" so most of the castle was demolished. Later the Duke of Newcastle bought the place and built the current Ducal Palace in it's place. The only old bit standing is the gatehouse at the entrance. During the reform riots the palace was set fire to by the... More

Kids enjoyed their visit here not our first visit park is good and grounds are beautiful and very well kept we like to visit once a year as it can get boring if you come more often maybe there should be different events to attract people more often but all in all a good day out
