A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

We somehow managed to enter the Castle from the 'handicapped entrance' and travelled opposite to everyone - the staff person saw that we ere 'interested' and gave us special attention - so we learned a huge amount of history about the castle and community. for example: when the parties happened ( some lasting day and night for a week at... What's left of the castle houses some lovely galleries which change on a regular basis. I've seen some fabulous art work and textiles on display and enjoyed walking around the gardens. If you want a CASTLE though - that is no longer standing. It is interesting and worth a look but only for an hour or so.

This was an excellent visit, it cost 6.00 or 5.00 concession, and was well worth it,there was restoration but you could still see some of the original stone, there was also small gardens to look round,as well as the Museum, there is the long room art gallery which had some supers artwork, proper paintings, not modern art, there was also an exhibition... The first thing I will say about my visit to Nottingham Castle is after having lived in Nottingham for around 25 years I really don't know why I didn't get round to visiting sooner. The second thing I will say is please ignore all the negative reviews on here. No its not a castle any longer but the remnants of... More

It is quite a while since I last visited this place and was looking forward to a peaceful stroll in the grounds, a look at the artefacts, and finish with a pot of tea on the balcony overlooking the city - what nicer way is there of enjoying one of the highlights of Nottingham's tourist attractions. At the pay point... More

Sadly, this castle has nothing to do with the big site, the fortress, the royal residence it once had been. It is a bit disappointing to visit, if it were not for the spectacular views and the caves in the rock. The museum inside the ducal palace, which dates from the 17th century rather than from the middle-ages, is not... More

Very disappointed with the castle, very untidy outside, looked neglected for a tourist attraction. Museum tiny. Only good point is there are nice views.

Located in Nottingham 9its well signposted) A castle once stood on the site of what is now called Nottingham Castle. The building there today is what might be called a large manor house. However, don't let that put you off. Inside the building is an art gallery with some good pictures, and a very good military museum, small but well... More

Day trip to Nottingham whilst staying in Derby. Glad we went as, apart from the castle and surrounding area, not much else to see apart from shops. Good value for money and spectacular views from the top. Lovely gardens around the house. Inside, lots of interesting displays to see and very informative. Decent cafe and a couple of shops for... We were looking for a change and decided on a day out using the train, good booking sites available on line, and chose Nottingham. I looked up via the internet for things to do and see and made up a day trip itinerary. In the main we stuck to it. Our first visit was going to be to the Castle... More
