A magnificent 17th century ducal mansion built on the site of the original Medieval Castle. The Castle has a turbulent past, linked to kings and conquerors and still has a maze of original caves hidden beneath its imposing walls. Now the building houses a Museum & Art Gallery, offering visitors an opportunity to see the best regional, national and international art in the regularly changing exhibition galleries. Plus the permanent exhibitions showcase costume and textiles, silverware, glass and a glimpse into Nottingham's history.

This was one of the reasons why i decided to visit Nottingham, I love seeing castles. It was about a 15 minute walk from the city centre (although it actually took us about 40 minutes as the signs directing us to it weren't great...). Entrance fee was less than £10 which reflects upon the fact that it's not a large... More

There may be little of the original medieval castle left, but the 17th century palace built on the site is impressive. A statue of Robin Hood stands in what was once the moat and it's easy enough to let your imagination take you back in time. The views of Nottingham from the top are spectacular and the museum inside the... More

Great historic castle, with sculptured grounds and an interesting Museum. We visited with Canadian friends, who were impressed and really enjoyed the Robin Hood connections. There are good City and panoramic views from the ramparts. Then go to the Trip to Jerusalem pub below for lunch or a drink - lovely day out

Maybe just because I grow up reading and watching about Robin Hood, or maybe just because I'm into history and Castles, but I really appreciate my day in Nottingham, expecially for Nottingham Castle. It's not really big, but the gardens and the museum worth a visit for sure! Don't miss it!

We had a tranquil wander around Nottingham Castle late one afternoon. The exhibits in the Museum were very interesting and there was a lot of interactive exhibits to interest both adults and children. Some fascinating insights into various aspects of life. The grounds were also very interesting to wander around.

Nottingham Castle is more a museum than a castle, and the old castle has long gone. But the history of the place is fabulous - as is the museum. If you get a chance, do visit the caves and Mortimers Hole. To appreciate it's history, do take to time to do your research before you go. You have to look... More

I take two of my grandchildren to Nottingham Castle on a fairly regular basis at weekends and they love, love, love "Hood in the Wood." They love dressing up in the medieval clothing including wigs and often get me to do the same. We make pretend meals in the 'kitchen' using the wooden bowls, pans, fruit and veg and fish!!... More

The grounds of this castle are lovely. Do take the time to enjoy the beautiful views of the city from the hill upon which the castle sits. The gardens and walkways are very peaceful and are a great way to get away from the crowds as few people seem to take advantage. Inside the castle are many works of arts.... More

Hi Joan B, Thanks for your rating and review. Our gardens are a true gem in the City and are definitely worth taking time for. Our view of the City is unlike any other and to us, is not to be missed – you can see why the Normans choice this site for the original Castle building – you can... More
