Set in lovely grounds the view from the terrace adjoining the cafe is well worth a look. Its museum houses a wide variety of interesting subjects and the cafe is clean and airy with helpful staff. Beware it's quite a steep incline up to the main building!

Visited with my 3 daughters, an 8 year old and 6 year old twins and they loved it, the last time we visited the oldest was only 3 and things have changed abit since then. The girls loved the dressing up area and the tale of Robin Hood and being able to follow his story through history. They also loved... More

Only castle from the outside, inside hosts some exhibitions that didn't seem to interesting to me. Small garden outside. Most interesting is the view of the city it offers. Otherwise I'd recommend just walk through the city itself, it's for free and you'll see more.

After visiting the castle you can't help but feel disappointed when you leave. The grounds and gardens don't really offer much and despite the exterior of the castle keeping it's character you find that when you walk in to see the exhibitions the interior of the castle has been completely modernised and none of it's original features remain which is... Not really much of a castle and given its position in UK history and its unique spin with Robin Hood. We somehow expected more. Surely they should play on it more, and wouldn't an archery club on the green be an essential part of the visit ? But sadly just a rather poor exhibit exists. In fact it should be... More

Lovely grounds, interesting collection. At the time we went there was an amazing exhibit related to the Great War so many of the normal gallery pieces were put away, but we enjoyed it all nonetheless. Some great interactive exhibits for kids. Good food in the cafe and an adequate gift shop.

My wife & I visited the Castle, solely to look around the grounds - mature couple. UNFORTUNATELY, this is NOT possible. You must purchase the Museum & Gallery ticket @ the gate, otherwise entry to the grounds is not allowed. Worth bearing in mind

We had a fun short visit here, toured the castle and grounds. Had a snack in the restaurant. The castle grounds were my favorite, love the shaped Shrubs of Robin Hood and a knight on horseback. We parked right outside which was great for us.
