I went along with my dad tbh thinking this wasn't going to be my cup of tea but worth a shot. Well, I was proved wrong !! Dan introduced the basics which for me was a blessing ( not having concentrated at school on this topic ). He made it entertaining in a way that was easier to understand. Lots... More

Absolutely fantastic! We enjoyed everything about the evening, the way it was presented by Dr Fred Stephenson, who was so passionate, knowledgeable and engaging then we were shown the telescopes by the 2 volunteers, who continued to enlighten us and share their obvious interest. Because it was cloudy and midsummer, there wasn't much to see through the telescopes but we... More

Sadly no stars as it was raining but had a brilliant night anyway. Dan explained everything at a level we could all understand and looking close up at the telescopes was a treat. Hot chocolate was very welcome. Finding our car at midnight then driving back down the track and along the forest road was interesting! Highly recommend this to... More

Overall enjoyed the experience but disappointed with the star gazing. It was a clear night but it did not get dark until about 10.30pm. We saw Saturn and Mars but the images were very small and not very inspiring. Would recommend to friends but would not revisit.

We booked for the aurora event, due to cloudy skies we saw, well , cloudy skies, BUT it didn't matter. The weather in this country is always pot luck. The staff were welcoming laid back and friendly but sooooo knowledgeable. Their talks were thought provoking and downright mind blowing. Treat yourself and stay over nearby, (we stayed at The Pheasant... More

My husband and I went to the Observatory for the Aurora night. It was an exciting experience just driving up to the Observatory through the forest! Unfortunately it was a cloudy night and the success of the evening is very dependent on the weather, however we learnt so much and the enthusiasm of the guys who run the observatory is... More

We visited the observatory at the beginning of June for an Aurora night (Northrn Lights). We were warmly welcomed and given a guided tour around the observatory. Luckily it was quite a clear night, few clouds, but the downside was that it doesn't get dark until quite late (well after 10pm at this time of the year). We were treated... More

We booked this session 6 months in advance to ensure a place as it quickly books up. The building is interesting in itself and the viewing deck would be a brilliant place to sit out on a clear night. We were unlucky with the weather as it was cloudy so we did not get to see anything but the volunteers... More

After seeing kielder observatory advertised on the bbc robson green programme we had to go! With the tickets only being £12.50 each it was a bargain!! When you get there the information they give you is explained in a level to which everybody would understand (amatuers & experienced) which is great!! Once the skies has gone abit darker, it was... The Observatory is some distance up a stone track and although rideable it is not ideal. If the weather is cloudy and you do not get to see anything then the evening is a waste of money, especially if you add travelling costs to the price of your ticket. I appreciate you cannot control the weather, but it would have... More
