Great place to see the stars if you have a clear sky. Topics are informative and engaging. The observatory design is amazing and unique.

We booked at short notice and were lucky to get a public viewing evening in July 2014. We were not sure what to expect. The drive up forest road for over a mile is something I did not enjoy in my new car. Think about leaving the car in the lower small car park by normal road. However plan a... More

Kielder Observatory is situated in a very isolated spot up on a lonely hillside about 2-miles off the main road. We travelled for around 50-miles to get here from the Northumberland Coast and spent a little time seeing the lake as well. The weather was pretty miserable and small breaks in the cloud gave us hope but I felt that... More

My wife has an interest in the sky at night and all it contains and I have to say that following our visit to the Observatory that I am now eager to develop my knowledge. The staff and volunteers really capture your attention and interest and the photos shown in the presentation are spectacular. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy but... More

I recently took my wife and two children (7 and 9) to an evening event at the observatory that ran from 8pm until 11pm. I was pleasantly surprised that each input was pitched at a level to stimulate the interest of both the children and the adults in the audience. Each and every person who spoke at the event has... I find it difficult to add anything more to the majority of reviews posted for this event. The organisers are so enthusiastic and informative we had a great evening. The presentation is for all levels of interest or knowledge and is also very witty. It can get cold but this is a very warm and rewarding event.

We were booked for a late night session (2330-0230) and had a 90 minute journey at either end. It was cloudy and restricted our viewing but..... The guys leading the session were great - they know their stuff and love sharing their knowledge and do it well The observatory and its equipment are excellent and there is a great outdoor... More

If you like star gazing then this is the place to be. Very popular so book your place as early as you can as numbers are limited. One of the darkest places to be and ideal for looking skywards. Obviously the staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and get the information across in a not too technical way. Some knowledge... More

Booked our visit to the observatory 7 months prior to visiting so it was always a gamble if we would get clear skies. On the night it was very cloudy so no chance to look through the telescopes, however the whole team kept us entertained for in excess of 3 hours. Extremely knowledgeable team, enthusiastic, helpful and genuinely entertaining. The... More
