As a fan of Mackintosh I was very curious about his only English creation. While small, the house is lovely and the two rooms that Mackintosh was given a free hand in are both absolutely stunning - far darker and more dramatic than much of his other work, and so well worth seeing. It's amazing to think of the time... More

Wonderful little house, with interesting small museum attached and lovely shop. I had no idea prior to visiting this that there was a Charles Rennie Mackintosh building in Northampton. The whole place is wonderfully restored, the staff were so helpful, and the free guided tour (for which it is advisable to pre-book) was really excellent

Thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour and afternoon tea that followed. Our guide Phillip really knew his stuff and the house itself was fab. He made our tour both interesting and amusing and would recommend to anyone. The tickets were well priced and the tour was at no extra cost so well worth doing. Afternoon tea was delicious and they even... More

Found this little gem, firstly with relatives and secondly, solo, yesterday. A beautiful example of the genius of C R Mackintosh. Would recommend that afficionados of Mackintosh visit the the Kelvingrove Art Galleries. There you will find a veritable feast. (I am disappointed however, that the shop at 78 Derngate did not stock the wine glasses with the classic Mackintosh... More

This is one of the hidden gems of the UK tourist industry. One reviewer said it should be bigger...well it's a house...that's as big as it is...it's like saying the Tower of London should be smaller! Anyway, treat yourself to a visit to 78 Derngate to see the remarkable designs. Also visit the cafe/restaurant. I have enjoyed a few meals... More

This is the only house in England designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It is situated near the centre of the town & easily accessible from local car parks. The restoration has been thoughtfully done & the result is charming. Numerous photographs are displayed of the family who commissioned Mackintosh almost a century ago & much original furniture is on show... More

Good value for money and we like the style but we wish the house was a bit bigger. Nice gallery afterwards.

Really nice afternoon tea. All home made, including chocolate truffles. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. They could do with more space.

A little gem tucked away on the edge of Northampton town centre. Worth finding for any student of social change and the impact of the desiogn changes in the 1920s. Possibly the best thing in Northampton.
