Well it's been a few years since we visited this place but I can still remember that it was a very enjoyable visit, whilst we didn't go round the house we di enjoy a very nice afternoon tea. The staff were very pleasant and the food was really worth a full recommendation.

Tucked on the outside of the cultural quarter, this town centre gallery serves afternoon tea for a treat or a chance to browse beautiful art. A truely special site and definately worthwhile taking a look around the free gallery or pay to view the house if you have longer to browse.

Wonderful to experience the design of Charles Rene Mackintosh without travelling to Glasgow. This is a superb house (actually it's three knocked together to create a larger museum space) that tells the tale of the Bassett-Lowke family who lived at 78 Derngate and had Charles Rene Mackintosh convert the house into the spectacular house it still is today. Some of... More

Hadn't known about this museum until we picked up a brochure at a local hotel and was delighted we did. We love the whole era of Art Deco and Rennie Macintosh's work so this little house is wonderful with a great story behind it. it is so well worth taking the guided tour, very informative.

We have been today for the first time ever at this lovely place. We haven't visited the house but we took a chance to taste a real English tea with warm scones. Service was good and quick despite being a busy day. We will come back soon and try the rest of the deserts.

Lived in Northampton all my life new of this little gem heard so much about it? The rave reviews? But never got round to visit or to be honest just couldn't be bothered! What a Fool I've been! Took the bull by the horns and visited and was so enchanted by the decor and the vision of both men concerned... More

A recent feature in the DailyTelegraph listed 78 Derngate as number 22 of Britain's best secret gems worth visiting. That says it all. The house itself is very small but was redesigned by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for WS Bassett Lowke, the famous maker of model trains, ships and so on for industry. It is Mackintosh's only work in England (lots... More

Amazing recreation of a house designed by Charles Macintosh in 1916. Attention to detail and faithfully restoring as close as possible to the original. Cost £7 for the visit and the guided tours are free and very well done, expert knowledge and a sense of humour aided , well worth the time to do one. Had afternoon tea first which... More

Beautifully renovated house, very friendly staff and a lovely restaurant/cafe. There's also a shop with souvenirs and an art gallery - all in one place! Highly recommended!

If you are a keen Rennie Macintosh fan then this is the place for you. Visited a few times before but always surprised by learning more from the excellent guides that are usually available.
