One of Northampton's gems. We went on a guided tour with a very interesting and knowledgeable guide who really was the value added element. Parts of the house are stunning, but it is all interesting. Wonderful!

I knew very little about art deco,on day visit to Northampton and I am glad I visited, not only for the unique style of modern and striking interiors,by Charles Rene Macintosh, there are displays of models of trains and ships, from the model making firm Wenman Joseph Bassett- Lowke, owner of the house..The tours are free, best to book in advance, the teashop restaurant was packed.Staff... Although this is local to me, I had never actually visited! I am glad I did! The house was really something and the decoration just amazing. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A guided tour is included in the price of entering the house, not extra, so its well worth catching one if you can.

A really unique experience. We had a very nice sandwich/salad for lunch in the dining room and were rather tempted to return for a splendid looking tea, but it was fully booked that afternoon. The tour of the house was fascinating even if you knew nothing about Art Deco or Charles Renee Mackintosh beforehand. A thoroughly enjoyable three hours -... More

This is a splendid little house to visit if you have any interest in Charles Rene mackintosh or the Art Deco era, which it actually predates. The staff are mega informative and enthusiastic, the guide was splendid and was very informative. It is quite small and there is a lot of information about the toy- maker that commissioned CRM to... 78 Derngate is a must if you have an hour or two to spare. We had a fantastic guide who took us around the house (approx. 50 mins) and then we were able to look around on our own. The rooms were exquisite. We h then went to the dining room for full afternoon tea which was heavenly (there was... More

Interesting house to visit, especially if one is interested in Renee Mackintosh. Loved the art deco rooms. Steep stairs and small rooms which can get crowded.

78 Dernagate is a great little gem in the heart of Northampton. Fabulous house, and the attraction is well laid out with a gift shop and a wonderful tea room. I cannot recommend the cheese scone tea high enough, it was sublime!
