Anyone interested in Charles Rennie Mackintosh should visit this delightful little museum and, if you are unfamiliar with his work, then come here and be prepared to be surprised. We had an interesting guided tour which lasted just over an hour which I'd highly recommend. With CRM being so ahead of his time and I'm amazed he had any commissions.... More

Having lived in Glasgow for many years and visiting lots of Rennie Mackintosh buildings there it was a surprise to find this as the only house he had designed in England. It has been restored to its original glory under the tutelage of Eric Knowles and is a real delight to visit. The visit is supplemented by a free guide... More

Been wanting to go and see 78 Derngate for ages, especially as it was used by my old school for lessons, and I have happy memories of racing around the building before our teachers turned up! We had no idea it was such an iconic building, and to be honest, in 1973, it was falling to pieces and in a... More

Afternoon tea must be booked in advance. But is more than worth any effort involved in booking or finding parking. One of the best afternoon teas I have ever had! Don't think about it, just book it.

This venue is a great attraction in Northampton & is worth a visit. A unique find in England, as you would normally have to venture to Scotland to see this type of house.

My daughter and granddaughter treated my husband and I to afternoon tea at 78 Derngate. I had been around the house years ago and had been impressed but didn't know about the tea room. We were served with an array of dainty sandwiches and tiny savouries first of all along side our favourite tea in individual pots. Then an amazing... More

This little house is situated near the centre of Northampton and it is the only Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed house outside of Scotland. We did the guided tour, which is included in the entry fee. I would highly recommend the tour as it provides so much information about the house and about Mackintosh and Bassett-Lowke which you would otherwise miss.... More

Whilst I may be a Mackintosh fan I think this place and the restaurant would appeal to anyone with a sense of style. i went there for lunch and enjoyed this on the decking at the back. Service excellent. Could work well for a family outing some time.

We went by train specially to walk to the house (and enjoy the fabulous architecture on the way) and we also booked lunch (really good. It is unlikely that we will return, it being so far away, but yes, it was excellent.) The trio of 78, 80 and 82 is very impressive - modern from nearly 100 years ago at... More
