Amazing place, a real must see. A fitting tribute to an excellent architect / designer. Beautiful Art Deco building

I was very impressed with the house itself and the video at the start put the visit into context in terms of the renovation work carried out. We opted for a guided tour - 3pm on Friday 20th February 2015 and there were eight people in the party. The guide put the video on and left the room, having given... More

Fascinating building, inside & out. Lots of information available. The staff were well informed and enthusiastic. Cafe & shop both good.

if you like CRM's style of architectural design then this is a must, being the only commission he undertook outside Scotland. If you visit I recommend the guided tour and then a solo wander about afterwards. It is equally interesting to learn about the client, Mr Bassett Lowke. Restaurant looked good, but was full and I was in any case... More

This is a hidden gem for anyone with an interest in design, history, model trains, art deco, local history or simply for a nice place for afternoon tea. Recommended that you take a guided tour with one of the enthusiastic guides. As the only example of Charles Rennie Mackintosh design in England this restoration is exceptional. The art galleries always have... More

loved the tour of the house and the high tea was brilliant! only point for improvement would be to advise front of house staff to remove apron if prepping food before guests arrive for high tea as the lady who served us had an apron covered in food and flour which was slightly off putting. the window seat was lovely... A group of us went for a tea and we were very pleased with the quantity and quality of the food. It was presented nicely and the staff were most attentive without being in your face all the time. We required a doggie bag for the excess to bring home. Will go again. Should also visit the house and enjoy... More

My father booked a group tour of 78 Derngate for my mothers birthday. I have to say, knowing nothing about Charles Rennie Mackintosh my attendance was out of duty rather than a passion for the renown architect and designers work. However within minutes of entering what on the surface seems an unremarkable terraced house in a Northampton street, I was... More

my wife booked for us to have afternoon tea on Valentine's Day, first impressions it is a very small intimate room. We had a great seat by a big bay window overlooking the garden and park. The tea arrived with nice sandwiches and savouries, I had a latte, my wife had a cappuccino, both were very nice. The next course... More

Amazing Charles Rennie Mackintosh designed house is the only one in England. Just a few minutes' walk from the town centre. Fantastically restored with a tiny but pleasant garden, modern adjoining facilities, informative exhibition, one room used as a gallery (some nice quilts at the time of our visit!) and a restaurant downstairs. Small but still well worth the entrance... More
