I see a few people complaing that the castle was shut, it has been shut for a few years because Lord northampton's son lives there now, so it's a private residence. The gardens are amazing and the church is spectacular. Great cafe and little shop, if you want more go to the village it self where there are more lovely... More

We had an afternoon spare in the area, so decided to try this hidden gem. Sadly the castle was closed - rather annoying since it didn't say so on the website. That being said it has a fine cafe and small shop, and is somewhere we will try again in the future. Also, be warned. Entering the postcode on the... More

There were 8 of us in our party, 2 adults and 6 children ranging from 5 months to 9 years of age. We were impressed by the huge lawned areas with mature trees and lots of large shrubs for the older children to play hide and seek. The farmyard had a good range of animals for the children to watch... More

If you only have a couple of hours to take the family out, this is ideal. Beautiful grounds for adults to admire while children have fun hiding in weeping willow type trees. The farm highlight has to be the meerkats - three babies when we visited - so cute! Finish at the tea room where there is a very good... More

A really lovely place, worth a visit but if you are going with small children be prepared. In terms of the gardens and the farm, it's well planned and safe, our little boy had a great time looking at the meerkats! However, our first experience to the day was the restaurant. Because it was not great, it really knocked the... More

My daughter and I visited on a Saturday and, although the car park was almost full, it wasn't at all crowded inside as there is so much space. Landscaped gardens, beautifully maintained flower beds and pots, a fuchsia house packed with all sorts of varieties and a small farmyard which was clean and would be ideal for smaller children. There... More

Took family and friends to visit gardens, great time of year lots in flower. Little farm is sweet even better with Meerkats!, and they had babies! They're SO fluffy! Have a look at the massive carp in the lower lake, they even eat out of your hand. Nice play area for the kids while you enjoy a cuppa.

We went here Saturday after it had been recommended by friends. It was a real surprise and a pleasure to walk around these stunning gardens, and only £5.50 to get in. At first it looked busy as the car park was almost full, but because the place is so big you almost felt you had the gardens to yourself when... More

Whilst staying at our daughters in Northants we came across Castle Ashby on the internet as a possible place for a day out for the family. We are so glad we did. What a lovely place. We were able to reserve a wheelchair for my partially disabled husband which made it easy to go around the whole site. Entrance was... More
