this is a concert / theatre venue in my home town of northampton . the royal is an older style repertory theatre showing a variety of plays and music , the derngate is a more modern venue as part of the same complex more suited to comedians and bands -the seating and stage areas can be moved around and even... Grand Children can come in very handy at times, especially when you want to see family (kid) based shows, as going to see kid based shows as two adults could seem alittle odd to some folk, but when you have Grandchildren you can drag them along to all sorts of shows you could'nt just go to see and family shows... I'm not entirely sure whether it was the nights entertainment or the location but I had a fab night as did the rest of the party, toilets were clean and pleasant and the overall facilities were good too. Definitely recommend getting a box near the stage it makes everything so much more worthwhile. Overall a great evening with one of... More

I have been using this theatre since it was built. Extensively rebuilt some years ago and with a swanky new entrance, nicely coloured seats but seats still hard as nails for a big chap and no legroom to get your knees together if you are bigger than a midget. Interesting mix of shows, prices sometimes hard to stomach when visiting... More

Northampton, being much of a clone town, has little to offer visitors, unless you like, pound, charity and betting shops. The traffic is often gridlocked and the locals. a mixture of unsmiling English and Eastern europeans, make you yearn for the friendliness of opp North. However one of its rare gems is the lovely Royal theatre, one could almost imagine... More

I've been here a few times, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to review as I love how versatile this theatre is. There are (at least) two theatre auditoriums in this venue, a new modern style that can provide 4 sided theatre or the standard theatre and an older looking auditorium with lots of atmosphere. Theatre is... More

Visited the theatre for the first time in June to see John Williams and the Royal Philharmonic orchestra. The concert was amazing and the theatre didnt disappoint either. A modern well laid out theatre, comfortable seating with terrific accoustics. Will certainly be on the look out for an excuse to visit again, very soon!
