After having been out for dinner when we had only had tea with our meal we popped into this nearby pub for a drink as it looked very welcoming from the outside. While the 'real flame' fires were probably fueled by gas they created a great atmosphere in the pub and we really enjoyed our drinks. The food that other... More

This pub is beautiful. It's a combination of 3 old buildings (a stable, barbershop & pig sty) so it's big and spacious. Although it's big it still feels cosy and the layout and buildings themselves are quite quirky. The food and beers are reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. It had a really Christmassy feel and I would highly... More

Visited after a long day in York. A very busy pub, but didn't have the spark most pubs in York seem to have. Ordered sandwiches, which were presented in a nice manner, but the dead sprinkle of coriander was unappealing as was the stale bread. Okay for a short stop in.

We always stop here whenever we're in York, except this time we had a tiny person and a big buggy with us! The staff were still welcoming. The pub is lovely, cosy and decorated nicely for Christmas. The food was nice, the beer is good. What more can you want?!

We popped on here for drinks and food and it was great. Basic pub grub, good friendly service. A slight complaint was the grubby glasses we kept getting our drinks served in but in every other respect it was a great pub.

We arrived and ordered a local ale and sandwich from the menu each. The ale was great and highly recommended however the food was a little poor. I ordered the steak sandwich and it was full of fat. Not enjoyable. Would come back for drinks.

We popped along here having just been entertained at one of York's Spooky attractions! We ordered our food and sat outside under the lovely lit garden patio area, listening to the bustle of passers by from York City. The food was worth the 20min wait, which considering how busy they were was good going we thought. Amongst our orders lamb... More

Living in York this is a pub we do sometimes drink in. On a night out with friends we met in here for an early tea. As the veggie options weren't great and I didn't want a big meal I opted for the cheese and chutney sandwich with chips. Service was good and friendly but the food poor. Stale bread... More
