I want to say big thank you for the amazing service and food that the place provided for the party we had at Old White Swan. I was a bit anxious at the beginning as I wasn't sure if this place would deliver a good service for all my guest 50+people. I just want to say BIG thank you to... More

Not.worth.the.wait...... Seriously... Waited 45mins-1hr for our food to come. And it wasnt even half full. By the time our food came (all we ordered was scampi and chips, a pie and a burger) we're expecting fantastic pub grub but.... It was okay... Mash was good. Would appreciate the waitress telling us that it was going to be a long wait.... More

Stopped here for a quick drink after a day out in York. It has a great selection of beers, friendly and helpful bar staff, and although we didn't eat this time, we have on prior visits and enjoyed it. Always worth a visit whenever we're in York.

We called in to the Old White Swan on three occasions whilst staying in York for a few days, each time sitting in the pretty courtyard overlooking the busy little street, accompanied by our two dogs. The first time was just to take the weight off our feet for a tea and coffee, which was ok, although the coffee could... More

Pretty from the outside, painted white and adorned with flowering plants, we just had to go in - and we were not disappointed. Larger than most of the other traditional pubs in York, there were plenty of seating areas and it was not too cramped. A lot of brick walls and pillars gave it an authentic feel and the atmosphere... Haven't been to York for a good few years, but I remembered The Old White Swan from my last visit in 2005. I can't remember whether it was a Nicholson before, but I remember having a meal there that was good. We have a decent Nicholson close to where my wife works and although we weren't obviously expecting a fantastic... More

Called in with a couple of friends wanting some decent pub grub for dinner and this establishment came up with the goods. Service was fast and friendly. The quality of food was better than average for a city centre pub. There were seating areas both inside and outside. I would also recommend the local Yorkshire Terrier beer,
