What a cracking pub in the centre of York! Best one I've been to that's for sure. My wife and I popped in for a pre-lunch aperitif en route to eat elsewhere. I couldn't decide on which real ale to try so the waitress suggested a third of a pint of three different beers - what a novel idea! All... More

We chose The Old White Swan for lunch while shopping in York on a Tuesday during school holidays. We ordered Vegetable Burgers from the lunch menu which, at £7.50 with a free pint, is outstanding value. The food arrived in good time and was very nicely presented in a rustic style on a wooden board with plenty of condiments. The... More

Visited here again last month, I'm always impressed with the place, it has real fires, great ales and ciders, good quality food and a great atmosphere. A few pints of Weston's cider and a roast dinner finished off my days sightseeing nicely. A highly recommended establishment.

Having eaten here on a few occasions and enjoyed the meals, my husband and I were looking forward to a return visit. When we arrived we were the only people in the dining area and on placing our orders of two main course meals were informed there was a 30 minute delay on food. However our food arrived after 50... We went in, having struck out at our first option (which allowed dogs but no kids). Being New Year's Day, we didn't have a lot of options in York and ended up here, quite hungry, close to 2pm. I wasn't pleased about having to sit outside, since we had our dog, and especially as we had an unexpected 40+ minute... More

What can I say this time last yr had such an appalling meal practically everything on the menu had run out and the meal that my husband and I had was absolutely disgusting. Felt so sorry for the waitress who had to serve us. BUT tonight what an improvement a complete new menu and plenty of it. Food was amazing... More

After having been out for dinner when we had only had tea with our meal we popped into this nearby pub for a drink as it looked very welcoming from the outside. While the 'real flame' fires were probably fueled by gas they created a great atmosphere in the pub and we really enjoyed our drinks. The food that other... More

This pub is beautiful. It's a combination of 3 old buildings (a stable, barbershop & pig sty) so it's big and spacious. Although it's big it still feels cosy and the layout and buildings themselves are quite quirky. The food and beers are reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. It had a really Christmassy feel and I would highly... More
