Great pub just outside the City Center.

Great staff who cannot do enough for you. Good sized portion of home cooked food that tasted good. Also has an interesting history of ghosts that had my daughter intrigued.

Having booked and paid for catering for 60 people well in advance we were assured that everything would go so smoothly however when it came to the big night the amount provided was wholly inadequate. Upon bringing this matter to the attention of the bar staff the response was along the lines of "take it or leave it", the attitude... More

Excellent service in a great english pub. A must visit if you are in the area. The fire was going , the cat was happy on the chair, food was good and the prices are very reasonable. The hosts worked hard to make everyone happy

When I've been it's been nice and quiet, which I like because I don't go there with the intention of a crazy night out. Nice to chat and drink. Has a lovely fire and nice music playing. Recommend!

Went in here after taking the original ghost walk tour of York, Didn’t find many ghost stories on the tour so was probably searching for some myself. Went in here on a Saturday night in early march. It was a lot quieter than I expected, but many of the pubs around York were the same. Decent selection of beers, not... More

We stumbled across this great pub by accident and enjoyed what is 'officially' the best Steak and Ale Pie in York washed down by some excellent Theakston's ales. Everyone enjoyed the food and ambience in this historic venue. Highly recommended.

A really friendly Wednesday lunchtime welcome from the landlord. It was lovely to sit by the open fire and warm up after a chilly walk from the station.

Love the steak pie here, had steak & Stilton yesterday for a change and even better than the steak & ale. Fab open fire and great atmosphere, highly recommend! Can't wait to go back for more!

Oldest pub in York I believe! Spot on Steak pie (proper with a top and a bottom!) plus huge huge lean ham salad for the calorie counter (not even on menu) - lovely welcoming staff. Def to be repeated!
