A very unusual tour. Our friend took us here as she'd been before and recommended it. We travelled to York and just outside this house remains the testament to the world famous Terry's of York chocolate emporiom. The house is not too large to be completely ostentatious and reserves an atmosphere of friendly welcome. We were shown into the lounge... More

A lovely building built by the owners of "Terrys Chocolates". The Garden is very nice and the location is good as out of the City with parking.

Having lived in York 15 years the first time I went here was last summer, using my National Trust card. Whilst the house is interesting the best bit are the gardens, they're beautiful, very peaceful and nice to while away an hour or two. The cafe is great and you don't have to be in the National Trust to use... More

Interesting house very much influenced by the William Morris Arts and Crafts school of thought. The garden itself, though nice and peaceful, lacks real interest. The house is mostly interesting because of the attached story of the Terry (chocolate) family and the memories of Betty Terry, now in her 90's, which have been written on the walls in some of... Brilliant 'Arts & Crafts' house. National trust have recently opened part of the house which is well worth a visit. gardens are full of interest too. You walk round at your own speed. Volunteer staff both friendly and knowleageable. All relatively small - this is not a stately house, rather a large family home. Cafe up to usual NT standards.

Gooddards belonged to Noel Terry of the once fine Terry's chocolate makers (now owned by Kraft and moved to Poland!) and is a beautiful example of the Arts and Crafts design and architecture movement. It has the comfortable feel of a well ordered and affluent family home without the grandness or the vulgarity of ostentation. The layout, the rooms and... More

This is the ex-home of the Terry [chocolate ] family in York, now N.T. it's been the regional HQ for the N.T. since the1980s but only in the last couple of years opened to the public.Very helpful and engaging staff, a house you could live with a human sized garden. I was delighted that one of the gardeners took time... More

Really interesting , shame regional offices take up so much space in the house. Hopefully some of the original furniture can be sourced, lovely garden, interesting how it has evolved - and the gate is still there (used to walk to work) - can still see the old factory in the distance. Worth a visit.

Great example of an arts and crafts type house lived in by the Terry chocolate family. Exceptionally knowledgeable friendly staff full of interesting information. Cafe in house which is popular and well regarded for lunches. Garden is nice and accessible. View over to the factory. Small parking area, off the drive up to the house.

This was the family home of the Terry's (of York!) chocolate owners. Set in four acres of well maintained, exquisite gardens, the house is in a gothic art deco style, but was built later than the art deco period. Although this is run by the National Trust, car parking is currently limited to disabled users because there are National Trust... More
