We went to Goddard's last weekend the house was dressed for Christmas. This is the first year the house has been opened in the winter months at weekends. We had coffee and cake in the sitting room with a open fire. Some people were having lunch in the dinning and play room. It looked so good have booked to have... More

Having been impressed by the house on a summer visit we decided to return for lunch in December when the house was tastefully decorated for Christmas with log fires blazing. We had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon starting with morning coffee by the fire. Lunch was served in the dining room, delicious and beautifully presented. I enjoyed the tomato soup and... More

I visited here with my parents on one of their pre Christmas weekends. The house was bedecked for Christmas, just as the Terry family did of old - as advised by one of Noel Terry's surviving daughters. A warm welcome, a warm log fire and a warm afternoon tea served on crisp damask cloths with immaculate blue and white china.... More

Goddards is run by the National Trust, but as it is still in its early stages of being open to the public, it remains fairly good value. The house is beautiful (real arts and crafts detail, some interesting history of the Terry's chocolate factory inlcuded in the 'tour' and you can even play table tennis!). The gardens are relaxed, have... More

The house is an interesting look at life of the terry family, gardens nice to view from.the window but what made my visit was how friendly the volunteers were, I had lunch by a log fire and got told all about the house and history of the family and terry's chocolates which were made in York until recently but now... A really beautiful house built for Noel Terry of Terry's of York fame. It was given to the National Trust who have used it exclusively as their administration centre for a while before deciding to share part of it with the general public. A large proportion is still given over to offices and who can blame them for wanting to... More

This week is chocolate week, so you even get to try the Terry's chocolate. The furniture is not the original which works well because you sit on the chairs and enjoy the rooms. Great for kids as they can touch things and we even spent 30 min playing chess in the longue. Great kids room with lots of activities for... More

Arts and Crafts 1920's house and gardens. Built for Noel Terry and more or less the same as when built. Excellent staff, keen to tell you about the place. Garden past its best by October. Refreshments slightly expensive.
