Perfect for a gentle Sunday outing with many glimpses into the life of the famous chocolate Terry family. The garden is lovely but afternoon tea on the terrace is a treat not to be missed. It is a lovely haven.

A tea shop, beautiful house and grounds, easy to get to from town, an oasis amongst the hotels etc. near racecourse, outdoor games and information about the Terry family - what more could you want?

The house is quite large, but much of it is "Admin Offices". The rooms that are open are good, but there was only four rooms on ground floor and four or five on second floor. Grounds were well kept and well-worth a stroll. The whole property can be viewed in under an hour, and despite the NT book stating that... More

We visited the house and garden as we are National Trust members. A bit tricky to find but well worth it. A great insight into the Terry family made famous by the Chocolate Orange! Shame on samples!

This was the home of the Terry family of chocolate fame, and is situated at the side of the Tadcaster road In York but is very tranquil despite this. It is a National Trust property and as well as containing history of this, has extensive gardens. In summer there are things for kids to do..........pond dipping was popular when we... More

This was also the home of the Terry chocolate magnate and has the family history and history of the business very well displayed. A lovely house and a lovely garden attached. A very nice tea is available also. Not to be missed but difficult parking. Go at the weekend when the National Trust offices are closed and the staff parking... More

Visited on Monday so House not open but still worth a visit as gardens are beautiful and, despite being so close to a main road, very tranquil. Loved the pond area just south of the house. Peaceful place with formal garden, croquet lawn, wooded garden and shady dell so you can spend an hour or so wandering round here

How I loved this place! It was built for Noel Terry of chocolate fame for his family and completed in 1928. Classically Arts & Crafts style with a gate house and a long drive leading to the mellow bricks and tall chimneys of Goddards. The Terry's brought up their 4 children, 3 boys and a girl here and it didn't... More

This is a well priced York attraction. The guides in the house are very knowledgeable about the Terry family. Gardens are extensive, beautiful and a joy to walk around. You can have tea on the terrace which is a nice touch.
