We walked alongside the river out of York, passed the Terry's chocolate factory (now closed) crossing the racecourse to Goddard's House - a great way to arrive. The house itself was the family home and of course the connection to the Terry's chocolate empire (All Gold and Chocolate Orange fame). The National Trust whilst not inheriting the original furniture and... More

Goddard's was the home of the Terry's of York chocolate family and it is on the edge of York racecourse. Despite it's size it is a very friendly house and seems to have been a very happy family home. I never realised just how big the chocolate factory and the number of people that were employed in the industry until... More

...and surprising close to the city centre. This is an absolute gem of a place, especially on a summers day when it is possible to lounge on the terrace and enjoy a drink (and maybe a slice of chocolate orange cake), the smell of lavender and the lovely views. The interior also has wonderful charm. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.... More

Went with a friend on a lovely sunny afternoon. Welcomed by a staff member who advised us about the house and gardens ..n each room a guide (or a recorded message) gave information about the history of the house and the Terrys family who once lived their. Lots of old chocolate boxes on display which brought back memories!! The house... More

I adore visiting Goddards. Admittedly enjoying a cream tea on the patio has something to do with that !! but the house is very evocative and really takes me back to York's hayday producing chocolate. It also gives off an air of melancholy and it saddens me to think of how our chocolate industry has been decimated. The garden is... More

Goddards is a lovely house to visit. The grounds are spectacular, with lovely terrace seating area, great place for a coffee or lunch. The house has a relaxed feel, fairly unusual within the National Trust. As ever the guides are informative and helpful.

Well worth a visit. Walked from Micklegate, took about 30 minutes (strolling, not marching). House was interesting, but the hidden gem was undoubtedly the garden. Lovely planting, pools and peace and quiet. Go visit!!!

Although long time members of the National Trust this was our first visit to Goddards the family home of the Terry Family. The house although smaller than some National Trust Properties is very interesting and the informative displays and contents first class. The gardens are also excellent and were much bigger than we expected with really good planting and excellent... More
