FREE FUN IN YORK... aka The Fabulous York Cat Trail provides both visitors and locals with the opportunity to find and photo the numerous statues of cats which are on York's old buildings. These were put there to frighten away rats and mice. The statues were also thought to ward off wandering evil spirits and to bestow good luck and good health on people. Enjoy the trail... it's FREE! You are warmly invited to download it from our website, or to pick it up from our Shambles based shop

A great free tour around the city

An interesting little freebie, we've done most of York a few times but never notice the cats. Wanted to do something different and enjoyed finding some new streets in York. Also... read more

I was thrilled to find this free trail - good walk around parts of the city with a different purpose. Used it to show a friend who didn't know the city well. Does need an up date for Coney Street as 'Clinton' has moved a few doors down!

An interesting little freebie, we've done most of York a few times but never notice the cats. Wanted to do something different and enjoyed finding some new streets in York. Also some of them were tricky to find making it like a treasure hunt. It took us approximately 2 hours plus but that was with a tea and cakes at... More

Whether a cat lover or not, this is a good way of spending half a day around York. It's a treasure hunt with a twist \ children are encouraged to complete the task and receive a free gift at the end. The Gallery is lovely also and a Dog Gallery on line or via a mail order catalogue.

Did this trail on Wednesday 16th December as a couple. What better way to look around York than a trail. Some of the cats are however tough to locate especially when the river ouse is flooded as it was when were doing it. Didn't give up tho and a little clue the cats can still be located if you go... We picked up the free map and cat trail from York Glass Ltd. in the Shambles and followed the map and the clues to find the cats around York. The trail took us to places we had never been in York before. We had fun photographing each one as we found them. We also popped into many different shops on... More

We recently visited York for our honeymoon, it has been a number of years since either of us has visited York and although I had a vague idea of where things were my memory is a bit rusty! We picked up the leaflet at the hotel for the cat tour and decided to give it a go on our first... More

The cat trail is such a cute and unusual way of exploring the city. Pick up a map and the written clues - they help lots. I did the trail in an afternoon, stopping off anywhere that caught my interest along the way.

My 13 year old and I loved finding these cats over a few days in York. Great way to see the city and cat fans will love it, quite a long walk though. Found all the cats easily although one or two seemed to be on opposite sides of streets from picture on map but written clues helped a lot.
