These were put there to frighten away rats and mice. The statues were also thought to ward off wandering evil spirits and to bestow good luck and good health on people. Enjoy the trail... it's FREE! Take all day and incorporate it with sight seeing, great fun for the kids and lots to see en route. Start early and enjoy some of the many food shops en route

I never imagined that this cat hunting would be such a fun! It is an excellent way to discover parts of the city centre of York and see some excellent types of cat statues attached on walls, hunting on roofs, stretching on balcony rails, curl outside windows or look curiously from above a door as you pass by! I highly... More

I happened upon this Cat Trail when wandering down the Shambles in York. I saw the leaflet and convinced my hubby to follow it. We are avid photographers visiting York for the weekend, so the trail was a good way of planning a route around the place. I didn't follow it in the order they suggested and mixed it up... More

Being a crazy-cat-lady-in-training this was always going to appeal but my partner thoroughly enjoyed it too and pronounced it a great way of touring the city centre. We viewed the main landmarks that York has to offer, stopping off at various points to explore further, and spent an extremely enjoyable morning following this well-thought out trail.

A nice way to spend a sunny day in York. The cats have an interesting history and it is fun to find them in various places around the city as well as see the wonderful architecture.

We really enjoyed this self guided trail - it's a fun way to see the city, particularly on a sunny spring morning.

Good and fun way to get orientated around York. It's fun trying to find the cats, and stopped several times to look around at other things that the trail took us to. Tip: we started the walk early (9am) before all the streets got crowded with people on our first day in York.

It's a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours sightseeing the main points of interest in York, plus it is so much fun to discover the cats dotted around the city. It is a great activity for couples, families etc. We will be doing it again as floods prevented us from finding 2 cats. But you will love it!

This is a really sweet and endearing way to spend an afternoon in York. My boyfriend began by buying me one of the glass cat charms in the shop at the beginning of the trail before we set off searching for cats! Even though we live in York, we found ourselves wandering into places we hadn't been before and you... More

I looked at tripadvisor reviews and thought about doing a cat trail. It turned out be an extremely interesting and special way to explore York. From the different cat statues hidden in different places, I suddenly felt more in love with York. Definitely recommend!
