York Terror Trail, a history tour of the horrors of York. There is a monster, 1900 years old, thousands have died in its name. Like all the best masters of disguise it’s gone by many names: Eboracum, Eoforvic, Jorvic… today we just call it York. It has many weapons: battles, murders, terrible accidents and deliberate neglect. This city has two sides, the one it wants you to see and the one it doesn’t. It hides it down back streets and in the corner of your eye. We shouldn’t want to see it but we do. The terror trail can show it to you…The tour starts 6.45pm every night from York’s most haunted pub the Golden Fleece Inn.Adults: £5Children: £2

Having done the majority of the ghost walks within York I decided to give the York Terror Trail a go. What you have is instead of the usual tales of ghostly goings on is in fact a very entertaining walk through the city with true tales of dastardly deeds which in more than one instance involves a horrible death or... We did the trail on New Year's Eve and it was £5 well spent. James is a very engaging story teller and knowledgeable about the history of York. The trail ended up at The Golden Fleece where we had a drink together (there was only four of us) and a chat with James about some of the things he had... More

We went on the terror trail on the 16th which was a Friday night, Absolutely freezing cold but our guide James kept us all entertained throughout the night and took our mind off it. I wouldn't say it was a ghost walk as such, all of the stories are based on fact therefore more fascinating to listen to. James through... More

We went on the terror trail on a Sunday night. Despite being quite a cold night and a small group, our tour guide Damien managed to keep us captivated the whole way through! We were really impressed how emotional the story of the city's history were. A different and thought provoking, intelligent approach... Unlike a typical ghost tour. I would... More

Our tour guide James was a wonderful theatric storyteller, provided the perfect atmosphere for the tour. This is not a ghost tour-- the stories are all true and supplemented with historical details about the city of York. Not a tour to take the kids on--there were several young girls in our group and they seemed really frightened. The stories themselves... More

What can you say but brilliant even though the weather was very cold! Damian our host was very good to say the least and delivered the tour with ease in a professional manner. The cost of the tour is nothing compared to some of the other attractions in York and presented real value for money for any family!!! All the... More

This was an interesting alternative to the clichéd 'ghost walk' stuff that is all made up. This was a much more interesting historical tour, but with the gruesome details of medieval England life at its core. A novel way to understand the events that happened where you are standing. Would recommend for first time visitors to the city.

Myself and my boyfriend chose this walk mainly because it left from The Golden Fleece which I was already interested in visiting on my birthday. We weren't sure what to expect at first upon finding out that it wasn't your ordinary 'ghost walk' but ended up extremely impressed with the whole experience. The tour guide was easily heard, eloquent, and... More

My wife and I live near Edinburgh but travel to York several times a year to get my native Yorkshire accent refreshed. Last week we bought cheap £12 tickets for the early performance of Charles Dickens' "Christmas Carol" starring Damian Freddi as Ebenezer Scrooge complete with Top Hat, Frock Coat, Limp, and Tap-Tap Walking Cane. His stentorian "when I want... More
