Love the museum gardens I played here as a child and now my children play here when we visit. We take a picnic and spend hours just sitting and playing with the children. Love the squirrels that run back and forth some are very cheeky. The flowers are beautiful and it's very relaxing and peaceful.

This is a beautiful garden, a great break from the busy streets and a must for anyone with children. A picnic and a couple of hours running around in the gardens is the ideal family day out. And it's free.

The best place in York to go and eat a picnic or just sit and rest, next to the river it also has the picturesque view of the ruins. Its peaceful and its 10 seconds out of the centre so you can shop and rest any time you like

Very tranquil picturesque gardens, ideal for a picnic, with a good view of the river. As the infers the Museum is in these gardens.

Absolutely gorgeous, free entrance, lots of squirrels (and we were lucky enough to see owls!) and it is possible to sit in the park and enjoy a relaxing time or you can wander around and discover some old ruins of an abbey. Must see!!

Best place to chill-out on a summers day. I used to spend days hanging out here when I lived in York. There are some great quiet spots to just chill and read and on a warm day it is perfect for people watching. The opening of the Star Inn the City restaurant/bar by the river means it is truly idyllic!... More

Beautiful and tastefully scape. Notice the walls which have survived because of the Roman's fantastic engineering for they included softer bricks to bear the upper weight of the wall. Notice too the sarcophagi which the Romans copied from the Egyptians and are also nearly 2000 years old. And squirrels and flowers. Simply delightful.
