Beautiful gardens leading to the river. St Mary's Abbey is always great to look at. You have the museum in the grounds where there is always an exhibition. Plenty of picnic space and squirrels to feed.

An antidote exists to spending several hours absorbing the finer points of planning law in the Hospitium (qv) - step outside and explore the 10-acre botanical museum gardens (landscape architect Sir John Murray Naysmith) including the remains of St Mary's Abbey (Benedictine) and Roman fortifications. Almost-tame grey squirrels will follow you (I nearly persuaded one to take my place at... More

Museum Gardens is a place where you could go time after time and never get bored. We love people watching and our grandchildren loved to roll down the small hills. A nice bit of peace and quiet amidst the busyness for the city.

Right around the corner to our hotel & so close to the town centre is this beautiful garden area. So relaxing and well maintained. Lovely to escape the crowds from and just lose yourself in the tranquility of nature.

Beautiful gardens. Well kept and clean but we are welcome to walk and sit on the grass. It's fun watching the squirrels and feeding the pigeons. A great place to picnic or just relax.

A park close to the river and going around the museum, with very old trees and ruins are witching this park along with the merchants hall that holds craft fairs

A short walk from the City Centre, the gardens house the Yorkshire Museum (fee payable), the Hospiteum, the ruins of St Mary's Abbey and the York Observatory. Around the gardens are some ancient stone coffins. Great place for your picnic on a summer's day but it can get busy.
