We had to walk through the gardens everyday from our B&B to the city centre area. Such a beautiful place to wander through and enjoy a coffee in. The ruins are amazing and the gardens beautiful. Loved it

My girlfriend and I strolled through these gardens and had a great time, it is full of wonderful plants and we spotted lots of squirrels. Also there are ruins that run through the gardens too, these are great to look at. If you are looking for a quiet place to wander or even have a picnic these gardens are definitely... More

Really nice gardens looking down onto the River Ouse where the river boat tours leave from. Would be a nice place to have a picnic if the weather allowed, nice grassy areas .Good level paths throughout and which also lead you down to the river path.

Set in the ruins of St Mary's Abbey these gardens a lovely to walk around and so tranquil. The squirrels are very tame! But do be careful as squirrels can bitev& have large teeth. It goes to the river & is just lovely to walk around & see what is left of the Abbey. Do go into the Yorkshire Museum... More

Last time it was a birds of prey demonstration, and there was an opportunity to hold some of the birds afterwards. There's plenty of space to sit with friends and family and have an ice... More

If you are visiting York on a warm sunny day, don't go into a pub for your lunch, buy a sandwich and a cool drink instead, and have yourself a picnic in York's finest beauty spot. Situated on the banks of the River Ouse, and amidst some incredible ruins, this is a delightful place to enjoy an alfresco lunch. After... More
