Great place to relax and enjoy your sarnies. If you take some peanuts then you can feed the squirrels. Ian

The ideal place to take your own pick-nick in York. Near the city centre, but feels miles away. You can sit under the trees, or near the old ruins of St Mary's abbey.

Great place to walk around in the autumn, winter, as there is a Public house right next to it called the Star Inn, with an on look to the river.

One of my favourite spots in the city. You can always find a little patch of grass no matter how busy it is. Explore the ruins, take in the plants and flowers (and some yarn bombing, recently!), and just relax.

The museum gardens are a gem. Well worth stepping away from the shopping streets for a short stroll through these gardens to see often overlooked monuments and buildings from York's history, especially the medieval ruins of the abbey. The chubby squirrels are quite entertaining too!

I stumbled upon these gardens while wandering around York and I am so glad I did. This place has an abundance of squirrels to watch which is my books automatically makes it a fantastic attraction. But if you aren't as fascinated by squirrels as I am there are a lot of lovely buildings and old ruins to explore, St Mary's... More
