DEFINITELY spooky but not fulfilling its potential.

35 Stonegate in undoubtedly the creepiest place I have ever been in!!! However, I was disappointed overall. The audio guide is a bit cliche and spoilt the ambience. I think an actually person guiding you round would bring it more to life, or at least time at the end to sit in the rooms and think about the history of... More

My husband and I have just returned from York today and we went into this haunted house. I agree about the audio, but I was quite pleased, that this house has a history and a presence about it without trying to makeit scarey. The man who sold the ticket downstairs, was scarey in himself, but friendly. The room I thought... More

This place is genuinely haunted. Of that I have no doubt. The atmosphere in a number of the rooms is brilliant and definitely not for the weak of heart. However, the entire experience is absolutely ruined by a terrible and frankly pathetic voiceover that is triggered each time you enter a room. Fake screams and noises drown out any potential... My daughter and I visited Stonegate, My daughter did see a little girl in the the bedroom, walking up and down, after leaving that room, my daughters jacket was tugged from behind twice, in the room with the table and board, my daughter felt very ill, feeling sick, felt she had food stuck in her throat, and dizzy, at the... This was a good laugh but only because we had the Yorkshire Pass. Had we paid for this we would have been very dissapointed. It's certainly different and is worth a visit if you've never done anything like it before, however the standard entry price does not represent value for money. Have the Yorkshire Pass - go for a laugh!... More

Ive just come back from a weekend in York with the bf. I hadnt even heard of this house before, we just came across it on a day out. I went in with an open mind and i was totally freaked out. I can see how people would find the audio a put off as it was very dramatic and... More

Now, I don't believe in ghosts or any of that malarkey but I still thoroughly enjoyed this attraction. It is quite difficult to find, being just a small alleyway off the street but look out for someone handing out flyers outside or a skeleton stood next to the door. Compared to some other attraction in York, I wouldn't say it's... More

A visit here was to be the highlight of a spooky weekend away. What a swizz..... the guy on the desk and the entry fee were the scariest things here! There were 4 people in our group, 2 of whom are very open to the idea of spirits. Once through 'reception', you have to follow a particular route throughout the... More

If your into Most Haunted/Ghosthunters etc you will probably like this old house. It is quite a lot of money to get in (from £7.50) but if you sign the tax form you get given a card so you can re-enter as many times as you like up to the next 12 months. Alot of the tour is quite spooky... More
