The Abbey is what you see whenever you look over to Whitby. It's quite a steep walk up, especially for us oldies. I'm told the tour bus will go up there if needed. Inside the walls, it is an awe-inspiring sight, and must have been more so when whole. Take an evening stroll when the sun is lower and you... More

Came for Whitby Goth Weekend. Beautiful ruins, and exceptional view. If you don't want to walk the 199 steps, there is a Tour Bus available from town.

Wow, the drive over is spectacular and you can see it for a number of miles prior to arriving. Coming from the northwest I'm used to blustery weather and being high up and exposed it didn't disappoint. This just added to the impressive fact of how long this Abbey has survived! Visitor center\museum is ok, shop is overpriced and far... More

Visited the Abbey on a very windy day, but we love history so had to do it!!! Felt it was a little overpriced at £7.50 each but to be fair we didn't have a massive amount of time. I love the handset with pre-recorded information - and the climb up the 199 steps is guaranteed to work off your lunch!

Have visited here many times-love the place.Whatever the weather it is atmospheric and full of history. Well worth a trip. There is parking at the Abbey and it is well signposted.Various charges but is also a good place to park if you have children as it is grassed and handy if you prefer picnics-also the toilet facilities are free, unlike those... You can of set your entry fee against a 1 year membership to English Heritage too. The Abbey is stunning really beautiful... More

The English Heritage staff were very friendly and helpful. We were given very useful instructions to get us around the site (and to the toilets, not located on site) and also a detailed map of the site. The audio guides were very informative, although mine did run out of power half way round. The views down into the town and... More
