This church is well worth a visit. It is very unusual inside and the climb of 199 staps is worthwhile.

A must-see if you are in Whitby. The church is completely filled with enclosed box pews, which I have never seen anywhere else. The graveyard is very interesting to browse around (and a little spooky, even in daylight). And, of course, there are magnificent views down into Whitby and out to sea. Not enough is done to 'promote' this attraction,... More

A wonderful old church that's a lot bigger then it first appears on entering . The Stained glass windows are beautiful . Voluntary contribution admission . Definitely recommend you go inside if you make the journey up the steps .

Admission by voluntary contribution. Interesting layout for a church. A glimpse of the past. The stories told in the graveyard and inside the church show the beauty and the problems faced by residents. As a non religious person it is valuable to be able to see the problems facing the local population.

This really did take me back to the Gothic Dracula Novel and the pen of Bram Stoker. Really quaint and interesting (weather beaten) head stones, as well as affordable views and a good rest stop from walking the 199 steps.

Climbing the famous 199 steps does not only lead to the Abbey but to this beautiful church. The churchyard is perched on the cliff top with brilliant views across the town and out to sea. The church itself is one of my all time favourites. The box pews with names on each of who was allowed to use them and... More

I love churches and this one was free to get in and so oddly laid out with plenty of little quirky bits of information. The graveyard was fantastic and the views were breathtaking from the far end over the cliffs and bay of Whitby. Worth a visit if you can face the 199 steps up to it!
