Extremely interesting, not to be missed. The church is very very old and is unusual inside, just take a close look.

Fascinating church to visit and excellent views of Whitby - I needed the strenuous activity of all the steps up to the Church & Whitby Abbey behind it to earn the joy of a delicious fish & chip meal to follow

When you’ve climbed 199 steps and got your breath back the place to head for is not the Gothic abbey but the church that sits within its shadow. It’s a really interesting place and well worth the effort of turning left off the path instead of carrying straight on to the more famous landmark. The volunteers on duty when I... More

If your in Whitby your probably going to the abbey which inspired Bram Stokers Dracula so a pop in to St Marys is on the way! Its a very interesting place and the ladies that we spoke to very knowledgeable about its history and happy to answer all questions.

The church itself is a beautiful building at the top of Whitby's 199 steps. A lovely old cemetary to look round before entering Whitby Abbey.

Well worth the 199 steps climb. Ancient gravestones, box pews, 3-tier pulpit. Time need to explore it fully.

the graveyard is stunning at sunset, don't miss it! Can be a bit windy and chilly so carry a weather jacket with you and some snacks if you are gonna be hanging around for a bit.!

The church has a lot of character and interesting features. To get to the church you need to walk up the 199 steps, it is well worth it to see the views of Whitby and to visit the church.

Wonderful views over the coast and harbour. Easy to imagine the atmosphere of this ancient church full of fishermen and their families. The old box pews and three story pulpit are fascinating.
