We have been going to Whitby for many years but have never actually been inside this incredibly old church. It was a total surprise inside as it consists of lots and lots of private sections for people to sit in private but in view of the minister who is high up above looking down in the segregated congregation. Each section... More

It is well worth climbing up the steps to the church and graveyard if only to get great views of the harbour! This is a popular place for visitors wanting to see Bram Stokers grave.

Awesome age of the church & magnificent views across beautiful Whitby. The Abbey ruins & associated history also added to our visit to the site.

Very old building. Interesting! Be sure to give a donation! I apologize as I took photos of the very old gravestones before I read the sign asking for NO photos. If you are planning a visit to this area, read Dracula before you go - I have read it since my visit to Whitby and some of the story takes... More

Really enjoyed our visit here. If its your kind of thing I would recommend taking the walk up here and having a look. Was very busy here although this was a Saturday.

St Mary church....great setting on the hill...uplifting walk up the 199 steps to get to it, super views over Whitby, and Dracula's abbey next door....but it's just a couch on the hill....if you like old churches...happy day, if you don't the go and but yourself some boiled sweets.

199 steps to climb to reach but worth it! The views over the harbour and down to the town are fantastic. The church itself is very unusual, it has boxes to sit in rather than pews and they are at different angles, lovely old pulpit as well. Worth a visit.

One of the most beautiful and atmospheric churches in the country, worth walking up the 199 steps for. We always visit when it Whiby, we must have been in there dozens of times but it wouldn't be a trip to Whitby without visiting.

Box pews and an old pulpit give you a feel for how people would have worshipped many years ago. A step back in time.
