the grave yard - Humpty Dumpty's grave - the plaque of the serpent eating its own tail inside the church (you might have to look about!)

Of our several stops in England, St. Mary's Church and its location continues to stay in our favourite memories of our trip. The tombstones are dramatically "wind-worn" and made all the more interesting. I wish we had been able to stay longer inside the church, as it was fascinating with its sectional pews and quaint old plaques and artwork. The... More

No visit to Whitby is complete without a visit to this remarkable church which lies on the cliff edge! Access is via the 199 steps but this will help with your training regime! You always have the feeling that Mr. Dracula is nearby and watching your every move. Go for it!

I love this church, it has a wonderful history and yet again the decorated xmas trees were amazing. I feel privileged to be able to visit and enjoy the occasion although the remembrance trees were sad but important.

Visited St Mary's Church Whitby on New Years Eve as we had been told about the Christmas Tree exhibit. What a sight to behold & treat it was when we eventually arrived at the summit of the 199 steps. This church is amazing & the amount of Christmas Trees that were on show inside from local establishments & personal tributes... More

There are a "few" steps to get to it from the town before appreciating the view and the interior, Of course this place is famous for its Dracula connotations, but I just did not feel his presence on this cold winter day!

Well worth a visit, a beautiful church with stunning views of Whitby town and harbour. The Christmas trees were beautiful.

A beautiful church. We combined our visit with the Abbey and the 199 steps. Take your time to look inside, to read the inscription and to admire the grouped pews. Just remember it is a family church, repect is needed.
