If you've climbed The 199 Church Steps to see the Abbey, you ought to first explore this wonderful church to which they belong - the Abbey will still be open after the church has locked it's doors. This is very similar to Old St Stephen's Church above Robin Hood's Bay, but on a very grand scale. A seafarer's church of... More

This churched is accessed on the same 199 step route as the abbey. Steeped in history and the architecture inside was vastly different from any we have seen before. Lots of personal information relating to individuals from the area. Greats views over the harbour and out to sea.

We visited St Mary's Church and were fascinated by the layout of the pews, very unusual. The church is very plain, but beautiful and the views are superb from outside the church, well worth the visit, after walking up the steps.

An amazing old church by the Abbey, love the fact the pews are "penned" off for the local families. A beautiful church with a story.

The church is nice and worth a quick stop either to or from the Abbey. However what is really unique is the cemetery that surrounds the church. Legend has it this is the location that inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula. True or not, it is one of the most unique cemetery's you will visit as it completely surrounds the... More

I first took my husband here ( years ago and he didn't know that it existed. The interior dates back a generation and they do regular talks and video dictating the history of the church.
