Yes you go through the old town and up a slope towards the 199 steps leading to the church and abbey. The views are stunning across Whitby and the church is quirky, go inside and look at the pulpit!! If you dared to stop until the evening there is a real sense of why Bram Stoker set Dracula around this... More

Not like other churches and well worth a visit. The graveyard itself was very atmospheric and very Gothic. Sitting watching the sea or viewing the ruins of the Abbey gives you a very spiritual feeling. The church itself was very interesting with its 3 tiered pulpit and horn for the deaf attached. Well worth a visit.

I had walked into this church for the first time today and experienced warmth amongst the staff and the place fascinating to view. I took a quiet time to sit and watch people walk around in fascination at this building 1905 built.

Climbed the steep 199 steps to reach the top, and enjoyed spectacular views. As we were pushed for time, we were unable to stop and go in, although it was open for visitors. We just took a few snaps and made our way back down again. For those who are less nimble, there are seats at approx 60 step intervals....and... More

It is a beautiful and historic building, however if you have a family that's not interested it can be hard to keep them entertained, not for certain kinds of children!

We did have a lot of photos here. The view is surreal and makes you feel awed by the very serene place although there were a lot of tourists. One place that I will never forget. a walk of 199 steps.

This is a very historic site what with the church and abbey. The church offers a peak into the history of town with its dates, names and stories. Sit in the nave and just imagine what it has seen in the hundreds of years of its existence. Combine with a slow review of the headstones around it and ensure you... More

There are enclosed family pews and a central pulpit. Find Peregrine Lasscelles memorial and understand what bravery is.
