Lovely old church, very ornate. And had a working stove, free to enter with a gift shop. Never found out about pew boxes though

Often visit this church when I've climbed the 199 steps. I was delighted to find there is now a shop and use of the toilet -free!!! The shop was well stocked and were it not for the fact that others were waiting for me I might have browsed longer. Souveners religious and secular available. the church itself is of the... More

Approaching the church, the first sign that everything may not be as it seems are the enclosed wooden steps that lead to high doors in this old church. Entering the church, the first thing to notice is that it is 100% pews on the main floor - and that these are all high pews, requiring a special high pulpit for... More

This lovely old church has not suffered from modernisation and is full of atmosphere and is a "must see" after you have been to the abbey. Climb the steps or take the open topped bus, a lovely ride in itself. The views of Whitby and the estuary are magnificent.

It was damp and windswept and the atmosphere was grand...eerie but it was well worth the walk and the chuch itself is lovely....very peaceful and not at all cold nside.

Unique church one of a kind. Reasonable priced souvenirs. Lovely history. Well worth a visit. Liked the high pews and the well kept alter. Do look for the tomb and plaque of the couple born on the same day died on the same day in 1600 and 1680.

We visited the the church on top of the hill, it was a climb of a 199 steps to reach it, ! That was a mission, maybe not good for ill health or elderly, and children in pushchairs, but very interesting. The views where beautiful once reached, and you could see across the bay. The church its self was very... More

I love this church it is a must when going to Whitby. The staff are very friendly and informative. The church is well maintained. Could do with some more info boards though around to help with the history.

Climb the 100 steps up to the top for a magnificent view up and down the coast and over the harbour of Whitby.

Interesting church at the top of the 199 steps, found it somewhat austere with benches bolted in at each end, but well maintained and free to enter.
