Loved the Graveyard!

I know it's a graveyard, but there are some gravestones to look out for... Humpty Dumpty, Tom Thumb and the pirates! Great views and just a great looking location.

An historic gem of a church. The box pews are fascinating - read who was allowed to sit in certain pews. They still use a coal stove to heat the church. It has a fantastic triple decker pulpit. The views over Whitby, on a sunny day, are superb.

St Mary's is well known for its iconic cliff-top location, above the dramatic harbour and River Esk, and it's Dracula associations. But do go inside the church - it's like going back 200 years, with box seating throughout.

You may have explored 100s of churches in the past but make sure you visit this one. The walk to it is via 199 steps winding up out of old Whitby and overlooking the wonderful harbour and red tiled roofs of the old town. At the top in a wonderful dramatic location high up on the cliffs overlooking the harbour... More

A small church that is very different. It is almost like going into a theatre. The pews are all high boxes. The pulpit is 3 tier & it rises above the pews. Well worth the climb up the 198 steps to visit this church.

its not the biggest church but it is well worth a visit, the first challenge is to climb the 199 steps to the church itself, but once up there and all the way up the views over whitby and beyond are worth it, take a wander round the windsweeped graveyard, and visit the historic little church with so much history

Went into St Mary's just for a look and it was an unexpected surprise. Church was unlike any we had been into. My husband asked the lady volunteer a question and she explained all sorts of things to us and another couple. Very impressed.

The walk up to the church is pretty daunting but wasn't as bad as it looked. It took a much shorter time to get up then I thought and was worth the effort. It has lovely views of whitby and is nice for a stroll around to look at the church and the old graves. It is easy to see... More

This is a beautiful church, with box pews plus a triple decker pulpit with a great history. Well worth the walk up the steps, plus the added views over Whitby are fantastic
