Recently took a trip out to the Essex countryside. Surprised not only by the amount of countryside that close to London, but also by the small town of Finchingfield - a pleasant town with a green and a teashop a few eateries around it. We stumbled upon Caleys Coffee shop in the Guildhall while looking for somewhere else. We had early morning coffee there and so impressed returned later in the day for tea and cake. The café in the guildhall is excellent. A chance to have tea in a Victorian court with a lot of the original furniture. The chocolate treats are great, the staff friendly. I suspect the locals want to keep this one to themselves.

If you like historical buildings then add this to your list when visiting Norwich. Depending on the time of day for your visit you can also enjoy morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea here served to you by a freindly staff.

Just walking round the outside you get a wonderful sense of history and when you walk inside it takes you right back in time.

Stumbled upon this place by accident, trying to get out of the cold! The tearoom is in the main body of the Guildhall and it is a very pleasant environment. My daughter and I each had a jacket potato and they were excellent - delicious and very filling. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the surroundings were very... More
