We visite Somerset House before Christmas and really enjoyed the experience of the Fortnum and Mason Christmas Lodge and shop and also watching people ice skating. We stopped for lunch in the Lodge and this was lovely - we had a big mug of hot chocolate with flavoured marshmallow and welsh rarebit toasties. It was lovely to wrap up warm... More

Of the many ice rinks that have sprung up in London over recent years this one must have the best situation and atmosphere. Skating is great fun and the overall experience is really special.

Beautiful setting for ice skating, with comfy skate boots (take extra socks), great service and lovely atmosphere. Well organised, with lockers for bags, lots of room to put skates on etc and a coffee bar too (although we had hot chocolate in the Fortnums cafe - yum!) Easy to get to and convenient for restaurants afterwards. Recommend this as a... More

I got this as a Christmas present. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The setting was beautiful, whole thing very organised. I can't skate but you can hold onto the barriers, though they don't go all the way round, so beware!

Great time had by all. There is a section where children can skate holding on to polar bears. Both my 4 and 7 year old love it. You can not visit London during the Christmas Holidays and not have a skate. Last time I was here was over 6 years ago and now we are going to make it a... More

What a great beautiful experience, loved it so much and even though we visited after Christmas the atmosphere was great. Staff on the desk really helped me get some good photos by suggesting I go up a magnificent stairway, really kind 😘 Can recommend this, great fun and a great thing to do with the kids at a reasonable price... My husband booked an ice skating session for himself and our 7.5 year old daughter at 4:15pm on 28th December 2015. It was the perfect time as it was beginning to get dark and therefore made the atmosphere quite magical. The rink itself was very busy and I would not recommend taking children under the age of six years because... More

We visited during our Christmas stay and it was just walking distance from our hotel on Fleet Street. We arrived, walked through a large stone pillared entrance into the courtyard area where the large rink is situated! We didn't skate - we were there to observe and to enjoy a drink in Toms Skate Lounge. The rink was maintained well...... More

We went to soak up the atmosphere and have a lovely time. The music was festive, the lights changed from white to blue to change the mood and everyone there was having fun. Next time, we will skate.

Doesn't get more Christmassy than this! The mild weather meant the rink was a bit of a swimming pool but still had great fun. The standard of boots you are given is very good. The skating staff looked after our young children well. The rink is busy.....but as the session goes on it gets a lot quieter so plenty of... More

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighborhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
