Owner description: A truly unique pub in the heart of Islington. As the only pub in the British Isles to bear the name, The Island Queen really is one of a kind. Tucked away on Islington's quiet backstreets, "the Queen" is a quaint oasis of comfy sofas, high ceilings and intriguing original features reminiscent of a classic London gin palace. Our deceptively bijou bar serves a gargantuan range of speciality drinks, while our colonial-inspired interior - embellished by etched glass and hand-painted mirrors - makes for a uniquely cosy backdrop in which to savour them.

I booked this pub for a work Christmas party for 22 people. They were a little disorganised and I had to chance them on email over the booking they were one of few pubs that accepted large groups and adapted their menu for the veggie and vegan members of staff and still had very reasonable prices. We had a booking... More

I couldn't recommend this place less. The food was utterly diabolical - cold, badly cooked, and the five of us were served a completely different times (10 mins apart despite all ordering the beef Sunday lunch). When we complained the manager wants us to say what would 'make us happy'. We kept saying at that stage that a hot lunch... More

Picture the scene: A warm early September lunchtime. Monday. 12.30pm. I wander up to the Island Queen. I'd never eaten here, had a pint here once a couple of years ago. My co - diner said it would be ok...and the location off the motorway that is the is the Islington upper st strip! was appealing for a quiet catch-up... More

Gorgeous building with wonderful high ceilings and glass and mirrored walls with an excellent choice of well looked after beers.... But, truly aweful food, avoid unless you are desperate, worst item on the menu us mushroom toast. Left over pie filling mixed with a couple of sliced mushrooms all poured on soggy bread, yuk.

We had visited this pub many years ago when it sported female mannequins dressed in Victorian underwear on top of the central island in the bar and a good deal of odd ornamentation beside. Most of that has now gone but there is still a massive figurehead and the very high ceilings and huge windows. Beer is well kept but... More

Located away from the hustle and bustle, the Island Queen is a lovely little pub. The food was the usual pub grub, nothing to shout about. However, the selection of beers and the atmosphere were great, and not too too pricey. Shame about the rather uncaring and unfriendly attitude of most of the staff.

We're sorry if you had a negative experience during your visit. We take customer service very seriously and we strive to keep our guests happy. Unfortunately, there were a few bad apples amongst the bunch at the time you were in, but we're happy to say that they have been taken care of. We hope you'll come in again soon.... More

A beautiful old school islington pub, but we had a terrible experience of poor service. It was a busy night but even so we were treated very offhand and no attempt was made to resolve our complaints.

Spent a lovely warm evening sipping ciders outside this pub. It's on a very quiet, residential street and we were asked to move inside at approx 10pm. They have a good selection of ales on offer too but it is a bit pricey. Although we didnt have food on this visit, the previous reviews seem a bit harsh. Staff were... More

A very relaxed, friendly and welcoming bar. There is a great feeling of airiness about this bar. We did not eat here but the staff were great, especially Mark. Would recommend.
