Lovely non touristy feel about the place. Kept its historical charm but for a modern clientele. Seems to offer a good range of good. Would go back.

Lovely building, fair food but the staff were so rude when my friend reasonaboly requested a replacemnt bottle of wine as she had (accidently) spilt one over him she shouted "don't be rude"(He wasn't being, she was) ,you will get a cheaper glass ,that's our policy ,we won't be able to sell the remainder if we replace this!".Can I say that the... I visited the George this evening with two others for a catch up over food and wine. The venue was okay and the food was fine. However the staff I encountered need some customer service training as they were like rude petulant children which frankly no one needs after a day at work. That alone was more than enough to... Avoid this place as the staff have a terrible attitude. From ordering food at the bar to having a glass of wine poured over me by a waitress. When you spill someone's red wine all over them you should really apologise and replace the drink!!

Much is written about this venue, with its links to Chaucer and Dickens - and maybe even Shakespeare too. I have been supping a pint here since 1977 and I love the place. It is now owned by the National Trust - but don't let that put you off. It is incredibly popular with tourists, as is the now fashionable... More

Our past experience of The George has been good. However our visit this weekend was awful. We found the staff very rude, especially as once the time approached 11pm they couldn't turf everyone out quick enough. They even put the chairs on tables whilst you were sat there. There are lots of other places nearby which are much nicer and... More

And this wasn't the weather but the pub... Totally deserted (Weds. lunchtime) apart from a staff member with a streaming sniffling cold. Our chicken breasts wrapped in bacon were OK but luke -warm, surrounded by warm uncooked carrots & beans (we like our veg lightly cooked.......we also like to be able to get a fork into them). The sniffling maitre/greeter/waiter... More

Always try to drop in if we are in this part of Southwark. Pleased that it is in the hands of the National Trust who will do their best to preserve it, although it does lack a bit of spontaneity and verve as a pub should. Often there are coach loads of tourists. Sometimes the staff seem to lack the... More

Had lunch, standard pub fare but more interesting menu than some. Building itself very interesting with lots of quirky olde worlde rooms but 21st century loos, I can only vouch for the ladies. Convenient location and outdoor seating area too.
