Since 1663 the Theatre Royal Drury Lane has provided entertainment for the masses and has been visited by every monarch since the Restoration. The theatre has not one, but two, royal boxes and it was here that the public first heard both the National Anthem and Rule Britannia. Previous buildings were managed by the great actor David Garrick and the famous playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan and he current, fourth, building was opened in 1812.The theatre was renowned for its spectacular Victorian melodramas and pantomimes but since the 1920s its history has mirrored the development of the modern musical. From the original London productions of American musicals Rose Marie, The Desert Song and Show Boat, through Ivor Novello’s romantic operettas and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s groundbreaking post-war shows to The Producers and The Lord of the Rings. My Fair Lady held the record as the theatres longest run for many years but Cameron Mackintosh’s record breaking production of Miss Saigon, at ten years, is the current record holder.

I believe the quality of the show was good and it was fun to listen to but we missed a lot of the show due to the lighting and partial view of the stage. So if you are going to go make sure you see the show from the floor seats. Seats are small and not exactly comfortable. The kids... More

We booked to see shrek online, complete with a two course meal at Planet Hollywood, and the combined tickets were £64 for three of us which i was a bit dubious about as it was so cheap. The tickets were for balcony seats and as we were newbies to the Druary Lane Theatre i didnt know the seating plan. I... More

I took my daughter to see Shrek the musical for her birthday. This theatre is one of the oldest in London and is reputedly haunted. We saw Shrek the musical which we both thoroughly enjoyed. I would recommend that you consider hiring a box which makes the occasion special since you have your own personal area. You are also not... More

Had a great time at the 3 pm matinee Sunday May 6. Shrek: The Musical was a delight, for me and the wife. The acting was great and the staff most helpful and friendly. We were fortunate to be there for the 1 year anniversary of the performance in this theater. Well worth the effort, wonderfully entertaining and funny.
