On my latest visit to London I travelled on the DLR from Cutty Sark to Bank and it is a fascinating journey as a tourist. Tracks are high up so you have very good views all round - Canary Wharf included. Such an efficient and convenient way to travel the East End and City using an Oyster card or similar.

Great way to get around the docklands. Never a long wait. Very easy & efficient! It's nice to be able to see where you are since you are above ground.

This transit system serves much of east London and has driverless trains so it's possible to sit at the very front or back for the best views. The westernmost station is Bank in the heart of the City of London and from here the first mile or so is underground. Other termini are Tower Gateway, Stratford International, Beckton, Woolwich Arsenal... More

Maybe it's because I'm used to the colour coded Tube lines but I'm not a huge fan of the DLR. Having said that, going past City airport and all the Docklands locations is very cool.

We use this as a family every so often, it is easy to use, clean and great for the kids. Rush out peak times are a bit of a squash, but that is to be expected of a main transport method in London.

Change from the Underground system at Bank, and you can continue you journey on clean fast trains to Canary Wharf or Greenwich. They accept Travelcards. Very crowded at times, but the stops are well placed.

Staying in Westminster

Neighborhood Profile
Westminster
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
