This light rail system is really practical if you're planning on visiting East London, including places such as Canary Wharf and Greenwich or if you're going to/coming from London City Airport. It basically links the heart of the city (Bank and Tower Gateway stations) with East London, especially the old docks and connects with many tube lines including the Northern,... More

Once upon a time, not so long ago, some parts of London were virtually no go areas because it was a bus or nothing. With the construction of this line many parts of London finally became areas to visit quite easily. It is quick, comfortable and reliable.

Always loved the DLR for its above ground views of east London. Great to sit at the front with young kids and pretend to drive the train. Due to its popularity they have changed the seating layout and removed seats to increase standing in the newer trains.

We found that the DLR was by far the best way to travel into the city from Greenwich. Although somewhat crowed during Morning and Evening rush hour this is a fast, smooth great way to get into the center of London by connecting to the Tube at Towerhill Gateway.

Excellent fun to ride on this railway as the views are great and if you are in the front car like we were, it is great to see it working without a driver!!

We were staying at the aloft right next to the prince regent station and were using it to get to tower gateway and back. The DLR itself was fine but as a tourist the ticketing structure is useless and confusing- you buy a ticket but don't show it to anyone of scan again anything so I don't even know why... More

The DLR doesn’t have a driver, so the front seat in the front carriage on the right hand side is available for passengers. Sit there and pretend you’re the driver. It’s brilliant as the train goes through the Canary Wharf district! It’s also an clean, efficient and frequent alternative to the underground.

Staying in Westminster

Neighborhood Profile
If you only had an afternoon to experience London on a grand scale, Westminster would be a wise place to start. The ornate Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey sit adjacent at a corner of Parliament Square, and a short stroll along The Mall leads to Buckingham Palace. Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column are just up the road as well. As captivating as the architecture is, the wonders of Mother Nature are highlights of the area too. St James's Park (arguably London's loveliest), the expansive Green Park, and pedestrian friendly tree lined paths along the river showcase the exquisite manicure provided by English gardeners. Just beyond the landmarks and the gorgeous outdoor spaces, quiet residential squares and age old local pubs offer a more subdued take on this global seat of power in the heart of London.
