Although there have been various earlier entertainment buildings on the site the reconstructed Adelphi Theatre, with its art deco interiors, opened to the public in December 1930 with Jessie Matthews starring in Ever Green. The front-of-house areas of the Adelphi Theatre were restored to their original lustre and extravagance in 1993 when Andrew Lloyd Webber became co-owner and opened his musical production of Sunset Boulevard. Other famous productions at the Adelphi Theatre include Gertrude Lawrence in Cole Porter’s Nymph Errant, Ivor Novello’s The Dancing Years, Bless The Bride, Beatrice Lillie as Auntie Mame, Van Johnson in The Music Man, Lionel Bart’s Blitz! and Maggie May, Charlie Girl with Anna Neagle, a revival of Me and My Girl originally starring Robert Lindsay and Emma Thompson and in the Adelphi Theatre’s longest run (over nine years), the new Broadway production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago. Revivals of Evita and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat have proved enormously popular. More recently, the theatre played host to the worldwide premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Love Never Dies.

Brilliant and energetic musical with a heart warming ending. The main characters played very strong parts and spectacular dancing by the 7 drag queens. Lola, the lead drag queen gave an amazing show with brilliant singing and dancing. At the end most people stood up to clap. A really good show.

This show was uplifting and excellent fun. The contrast between the Northampton factory workers and the drag queens was really interesting. The songs were catchy and the dance routines very good. Kinky Boots was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Took my friend as a treat for her birthday, and what a treat it was! The cast were first class, so much energy and amazing voices. I literally smiled from start to finish. The production was one of the best I have ever seen. The cast looked as though they enjoy every minute too. I would happily see it over... More

This was a well chosen Christmas present from my partner. We'd never been to the Adelphi before and were impressed with the beautiful building. The staff were attentive and knowledgable and we had great seats in the circle. The show was great.. Kinky Boots is well presented, actors are great.. Loved the whole experience.

I have to say as a non musical loving person for me the show is in a word.... brilliant! Great cast, punchy songs that you can almost hear Cyndi Lauper's voice behind and a storyline that delivers laughs alongside genuine emotional moments - what is not to like! I also have never seen a show where the whole audience was... More

My wife was keener than I to see this show. By the end of the first half I was hooked. The second half successfully built on the production and ensured an enthralling show. The vocal range of the leads and the athleticism of the dancers was wonderful to see. A show with a different tale and well worth a visit.

It was great , lots of energy and fantastic show (voices, music, dancing, representation, etc) Evenfor young children (8-9 years) it's very interesting and amusing. It's not a classic but it was an excellent choice to the whole family.
