My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Lloyds of London. It was fascinating to see how insurance began many many years ago. The building is amazing and quite industrial. Lloyds underwrote the Titanic. They have the sheet that provides you with the various amounts of coverage underwritten for that vessel (over $1M pounds). They still keep a written... More

Anyone with any respect for British business history should pay this place a visit. Even if you do not care how the insurance market works, you will be amazed of how they do business and the way they respect tradition.

Stainless steel and piping outside the building was the thing to do in the era of Centre Pompidou (and also the Rotterdam Public Library), but the architecture has become a bit long in the tooth in my opinion. There are more remarkable buildings in the City to marvel about.

Talk about maintenance free !!! this place appears to be totally made from stainless steel and the cleaning staff seem to love working there. If it was in down town Tokyo, nobody would turn a hair, but as it is in the very centre of the London financial district .... WOW .. it is pure genius and for me it... More

Famously bizarre looking building designed to be maintained from the outside and keep business running smoothly inside. Still worth a look after all these years and if you woups of desks, known as boxes, modeled on the size of the tea chests that the early brokers and underwriters did business at. Can look and feel as manic as the stock... More

Space/alien structure, but i love it to bits. It's looks like something out of Planet 'Earth', even though it was constructed many years ago it's still command 'awe' about it. Dont tell anyone it's an office for men in pinstripes suit. As structure like no other and seeing is believing

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Lloyds building, either during the open house weekend, or accompanied by a Lloyds passholder, take it! Off limits to the general public, this is the home of insurance. In some ways it is like stepping back in time when you approach the entrance, from the door staff in their red jackets... More

How a staid conservative institution like an insurance market came to commission this building is something of a mystery. But they did and the old boys in pinstripes must not have know what had hit them. The building is great from the outside but if you can get in on the once-a-year oped day called London Open House every September... More

Very interesting building. Not sure if you can visit it normally but I went on open house weekend and visited for free. There is an amazing board room at the top which is furnished entirely from some stately home.
